I think I have this same problem...some guy here says he simply took it to Wal-Mart who told him to call the company who gave him something and it was fixed.

I Just Plugged it in my Computer with the Ilo mp3 off before Plugged in. And I didn?t open any programs just plugged it in and let the computer turn the devise on and then unplugged it and turn it on and it worked.
The saem thing happens on mine i just let is sit and it unfreezes itself. make sure that you are removing the usb port safely (by clicking the icon for that that should be in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen when the usb is plugged in) or it will have a bigger chance of freezing up on you.

Our Problem with the "buttons" are that the power button keeps breaking, this is our 3rd replacement since Christmas 2007 and it's broken again. Now it won't turn on or off unless you plug it in to the usb cord, and go through your puter. Very disappointed, cute player but not very durable.
Solution not valid, I'm having the same problem with mine and I've already checked to make sure all of the buttons are loose and they all move. What pisses me off is the bastard at wal-mart told me that it was a good brand =). Lying S.O.B. I've only had it for a week and used it 4 times... so yeah...
