sounds good, but, this is happening when you are doing a fresh install of xp pro, when it gets to about 32 mins mark there is the first box that comes up and you have to choose an option and click next. the mouse pointer is frozen.

Try using the usb mouse then go into control panel>system>hardware>device manager. Click on the +sign next to touch pad or pointing devices and right click on touchpad, then click on uninstall. Reboot the computer, unplug the usb mouse and the touchpad should be picked up as new hardware and be re-installed.

so why not try continuing the installation with the usb mouse, (plug the mouse in first), then when the installtion is complete and the computer reboots it will pick up the touchpad as new hardware. (Remove the usb mouse once the installation is complete and it is rebooting)

Hi, I haven't got a Dell but try this site for the USB driver that is missing. With XP there is no support for USB2, an updated driver is required. Did you download the drivers from Dell? If not, that could be why as they may be old drivers.

I have accidently turned off my lower keys on the touch pad of my Dell latitude d420.Please advise.

Click Start/Control Panel andlook for the Mouse and open it to check the mouse properties. Make sureyou don't have the touchpad disabled.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad on or off by clicking on thebutton that is located at the top of the touch pad in the middle.

Some models will allow you to toggle the touchpad by tapping twice in the upperleft hand corner of the touchpad.

Some models will require a keystroke to toggle the touchpad. Press andHold the ALT or FN function key located at the lower left portion of thekeyboard, then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The correct key tohit will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square that represents thetouchpad.

Download and reinstall the touch pad drivers.Get online and got towww.google.com In the google search box type: "Dell Support"(without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Lookfor downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system whenrequested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.
