Unreadable fujitsu 160 gb mhy2160bh

There was a power cut wen i was defragmening my device, after that the disk was unreadable, then i tried to format it, the format was almost complete wen there was a power cut again.. now wen i plug in the drive only the disk management shows it as unallocated(the partition is also gone) an unreadable..and no operation like format or creating a new partition can be performed..but still the usb device shows in the safely remove hardware wizard.. what should i do, is there a problem with the casing due to the power cuts or is it something else.. please help, i dont need the data, i only want the hdd to be usable again.

Some HD manufacturers provide utilities for Disk Recovery. You can usually download these from their site. If you are lucky it is just the drives Master Boot Record that is damaged. The fact that the drive is recognizable is in your favour I think. Unfortunately when power is restored after an outage there is often a power surge or spike on your AC which can damage electronic equipment. Many devices these days work on such low voltages and current that it doesn't take much. A good surge protector is a must for computer equipment.

Did you try looking on the Fujitsu website? They may have a utility which will do this. It means you lose the data on the disk (you can recover some files later) but can re-use the drive.

I would recommend using a boot disk and run chkdsk (windows boot disk) or fsck (linux) This will help fix bad sectors if you use the correct options. USe the "/?" in windows for help and "man fsck" in linux.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

My Fujitsu mhy2160bh reads read error when booting up and my coputer wont come on it keeps prompting me to ctl-atl-del

Hello

Ok, you might want to have a close listen to hear if the drive makes a clicking sound, if so, then the drive is broken. If the drive does not spin up at all, then it is not receiving any power. This can be a result of either a broken circuit board or a broken drive.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

MHY2160BH Half dead wierd behaviour can't read / access data

If you have opened the hard drive case you quite likely have pooched the drive. This type of work is usually carried out in a proper "clean room" as even very small particles of dust that float around can cause destruction of a hard drive.

That is why they ALL carry a warning about opening them. some even have inert gases instead of air in them as an aid to keeping the inside clean and avoiding airborne corrosion.

Specialists are the only people I know who can dismantle and recover data from the platter but they are not cheap.

You are more than welcome to try yourself but you would need the EXACT control board right down to the revision number to stand even the slightest chance.

System can detect Fujitsu MHY2160BH : 160GB HDD, but cant install

it seems that your computer might have a SATA hard drive which could not be detectable by windows xp, try to install vista it will detect it easily.

otherwise use dm (disk manager) for detection and partition.

What to do with unreadable but recognised hard disk segate 400GB

Your Windows Xp bootable CD should have an option called "Format his file system using FAT32" while installing the OS. Use the option to format it. The only prob is that it creates only a single partiotion. After installing windows you can re-partition using a third party software such as Partition Magic(please note that it will not affect your windows installation as you can first re-size the windows drive to a lower capacity and then partition the un-allocated space.

Not Recognized?

Hi,
The device driver is causing a conflict with the system. If you have got any specific cd with hardrive install the driver from the cd. Otherwise , i would suggest try changing he manufacturer of the hdd and get a new one. If you have recently bought it.
Otherwise try creating a new account in windows vista on your computer and then try plugging in the drive

Problem with Hard driver fujitsu mhy2160bh.

You computer need the oem driver for the sata controller to be installed before windows can be installed. It wont find the drive at all with out the driver. You have to use the factory restore disks or have a usb floppy drive and download the driver and put it on a floppy disk and change the bios to work with the floppy. The easiest way is to use the oem software.
