hi,
other computers are working fine in your modem?in that case you need to check if your pc can detect the modem,or you can check if the ethernet driver (for LAN connection) and/or wireless driver (for wifi) are installed correctly...you can check that in the device manager if the drivers are properly installed
if Windows 7 - click start ; on the start search area, type device and the look for device manager
look for network adapters and you will see there you lan and/or wireless adapter

Thanx

No internet connection, a network cable is unpluged

check the cables - may be cable is not plugged in properly or cable is bad or else the DHCP device (modem or router )is turned off .
Also check in device manager (RIGHT CLICK ON MY COMPUTER - PROPERTIES - HARDWARE TAB - DEVICE MANAGER , CHECK IN NETWORK ADAPTER 10-100 ETHERNET STATUS ) should be enabled
if everything is fine then reduce the link speed - same process but double click on 10/100 Ethernet - click on advance tab - change the value to speed and duplex and set it to 10 mbps half duplex and click ok - close everything 30 secs it should change the status .
try with the very first one with cables first please .

Just disable the network adaptor (wireless lan) from the Device Manager. You can re-enable it when you need it. It's because you've configured it. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Initially check whether the ip address is assigned in the computer in which internet is not browsing using the command ipconfig/all for windows and ifconfig for linux. If ip is present try to ping the default gateway ip address,if ping is success there is no issue in the cable you used and also with ip address. If ip is not assigned assign ip by manually or by using dhcp of router.Enable and disable the lan card in the router so that sometimes the problem get resolved. After ip is assigned and ping with router is ok .Ensure dns servers are correct else give google public dns server 8.8.8.8.Then try to ping www.google.com in command prompt if ping is success then you can browse.

Internet explorer cannot display the webpage

That error means the network cable that runs from the modem or network hub is unplugged from your network or lan card on the back of your machine. If you need further help please repost with the type of internet connection you have (dial up, network, or cable, satelite etc..)

Formatted pc and now its not detecting internet connection.. checked ipconfig but loks like my pc doesn't show no IP address.... everything else in d pc works fine except for the internet connection....

Did you reformat with the manufacturer's discs? If not, you are likely missing the LAN drivers for your NIC (Network INterface Card). Right-click on My Computer and select Manage. this will bring up the Device Manager screen, and if you see a yellow question mark next to the LAN driver then this is the reason.

go to network and sharing center and choose repair/diagnose connection and make sure you only have 1 network connection listed unless you have a home network.

Wireless connection

Start->Settings->Control Panel. Double click in Internet Options.

On the Connections tab, click on Never Dial a Connection. While you're there, click on LAN settings. Automatically detect settings should be checked, but normally nothing else should be checked.

If this doesn't help, you may need to rebuild the stack:
Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine
