How to disable the Windows XP Splash Screen / logo at startup ?
To disable the Windows XP splash screen (logo) at startup, and to see the list of drivers loading at startup, follow these steps:
Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG
Click the Boot.ini tab
Under Operating Systems section, select the appropriate entry and then enable the /SOS switch in the Boot Options section below
Click OK and close MSCONFIG utility.
The corresponding entry in the Boot.ini file is automatically added. Example given below:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
becomes
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /sos
The /sos parameter displays the names of the drivers as they load during the boot process. Use when startup fails (while loading drivers) to determine which driver is failing to load. See Boot Parameter Reference for more information.
Also see /noguiboot parameter, which can also disable the splash screen.

Is there a way to change windows xp bios settings after boot up, particularily using the command line?

My knowledge of using the command line is equal to my knowledge about astrophysics. Zero.
You can change BIOS settings in the BIOS Setup utility. After the computer manufacturer's splash screen, (Logo screen), and at the bottom of the screen, are shown the key/s to press to enter BIOS Setup.
Goes by real F-A-S-T. Try to write it down. Let Windows load all the way, then restart the computer.
As SOON as you see the manufacturer's splash screen, start tapping on the key/s to enter BIOS Setup. If you miss this window of opportunity, let Windows load all the way. Turn the computer off normally. (Wait at least 20 seconds) This time as Soon as you press the Power On button, start tapping on the appropriate key/s. (In 2 second intervals) You don't get as far as the splash screen? Then unplug the computer from power. Observe Anti-Static Precautions. Remove the CMOS battery, (CR2032), for 1 minute. Press the Power On button in, and hold it in. Hold it in for a count of 5 seconds. Let go of the Power On button. Do this procedure two more times. Install the CMOS battery. Plug into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on. This procedure will set the BIOS Settings back to the factory default settings, and clear CMOS Error Codes. Post back as to your findings.

Downloaded drver for my printer. the add new printer wizard can't

Hi ...

If you have the driver CD that you recieved with your printer, follow the below steps to install the saftware:

  1. Turn on your computer.

  2. On your computer quit any open applications, including virus checkers.

  3. Insert the MultiPASS MP730/700 Setup CD-ROM into your CD drive. The [MP Setup] splash screen will appear automatically.

    1. If MP Setup does not start automatically, on the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer (on Windows XP, click Start then click My Computer).

    2. Double-click the CD-ROM icon. If MP Setup does not start, double-click 'Setup.exe' (on Windows XP, 'Setup').

  4. In the MP Setup splash screen, click 'Install MP Drivers'.

Note: For Windows 2000 users, if Service Pack 1 or later is not installed, MP Setup will display a message and installation will be aborted.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions, clicking the appropriate button to move from one screen to the next.

  6. MP Setup will install some system files and may prompt you to restart your computer. If you are not prompted to restart, click 'Finish' in the MP Drivers Setup window and then proceed to step 7.

    1. If you are prompted, make sure radio button 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now.' is selected in the MP Drivers Setup window and then click 'Finish'. DO NOT remove the CD-ROM at this stage. MP Setup splash screen will open after Windows has restarted.

    2. If you had to restart your computer and the MP Setup screen is not displayed or you closed it, on the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer (on Windows XP, click Start then click My Computer).

    3. Double-click the CD-ROM icon. If MP Setup does not start, double-click 'Setup.exe' (on Windows XP, 'Setup').

  7. In the MP Setup splash screen, click 'Install MP Toolbox.'

  8. Follow the on-screen instructions, clicking the appropriate button to move from one screen to the next.

  9. At the MP Toolbox Setup dialog box, click 'Finish'.

  10. Confirm the MultiPASS is turned on.

  11. Connect the USB cable to the MP730 and computer USB ports. Windows will detect the printer and proceed to install the driver files.

  12. Your MultiPASS includes additional software applications that you can install now or at a later date. To install the software, click 'Install Utility Software' and then proceed through each installation.
You can also download the drivers by visiting the below link and selecting your operating system.

Explorer Fails to Start

Do you have all the latest patches and are you sure you computer is free of virus or malware? If you feel you are protected then did this occur shortly after an MS Patch/update. Check and see if you can either unistall the last patch or boot to the last known good configuration (press F8 between the bios splash screen and the windows splash screen at boot up). If you are not up to date on your security, then start with that and then work your way into a repair...

I bought this computer at a garage sale and it is set up to log on by pressing ctl, alt, delet but I don't have the password is there any way around this

Try this:At startup, before you get the Windows splash screen, hit the F8 key to see if you can start in safe mode. If you can, the password for administrator may not have been set, in which case you can log on without entering one.Otherwise, you'll have to do a reinstall of Windows or, when starting the reinstall, when the computer says it's loading drivers, etc, you can press CTRL F10 and that should get you to the screen where you can see the passwords.
