The image projected is dull and colors poorly shown, Photos are not bright and vivid. How do I clean the machine inside? It's about 4 years old and has been well used but with care. Many thanks.

If the lamp has had many hours of use , this could be a reason why the picture is poor.
Has there been much dust collected in the filters over the years.

Proxima DT 5800 works but picture is much brighter with the lights out ,what could cause to be not as bright with lights on?

The Proxima DP5800 projector is a small format low powered projector at only 650 lumens (brightness measurement). It simply doesn't have enough lumens to cut through ambient light and display a clean image. It is best used in a dark room.

Also bulb age will play a factor in overall brightness. The lamps for that projector are only rated for 700 hours, and as they near the life expectancy they can lose up to 50% of their lumens.

Our picture is faded and the brightness is completely washed out the bulb has 1000 hrs on it does it need to be replaced?

yes it certainly seems like. the DLP engine won't have any age related issues, which means it must be the bulb.
I realize that 1000 is not what you'd expect for a bulb, but frequently manufacturers quote bulb hours on diminshed or even minimal settings.
bulbs are available for much cheaper online, even some reputable dealers on ebay. Just be sure to check their feedback!

LCD projector 101, your blue device is dying inside of projector. Consider purchasing a dlp based product, they do not suffer from color decay.

Really you are blessed , most lcds last about 3-4000 hours or 4 lamp changes. good luck

Optoma EP732H Projector - Image is Whitewashed

Hi tourblack

I wouldn't think that this is a lamp issue , as the lamp will make the picture fade away in brightness and wouldn't look white washed.

Check if the brightness is set to 50% and the contrast on 50% as well.

This could be a colourwheel that is in need of replacement.

ALSO CHECK YOUR FAN. IF THE FAN OR A HEAT SINK IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY (I.E. THE FAN MAY JUST NEED TO BE CLEANED OR REPLACED, THERE SHOULD BE A SMALL HEAT SINK. IF CLOUDED W/DUST, IT WILL KEEP THE OPERATION SHORT). ALSO CHECK IF YOU HAVE SET ANY TEMPERATURE SHUTDOWN PARAMETERS. IF YOUR LAMP HEATS UP FOR SO LONG AND REACHES A TEMPERATURE THAT WILL AFFECT THE CIRCUITS, THIS OF COURSE WILL SHUT DOWN YOUR UNIT UNEXPECTEDLY. HOPE THIS HELPS...JGUAM

Why is my projection dark and muddy compared to the brightness on my computer screen?

John here, customer advocate at Dell headquarters. If you can nvigate to the On Screen Display Menu, you should see an "all images" section on the main menu. There you will find brightness, contrast, color temp, white intensity, and gamma controls. You should be able to make adjustments from that menu to sharpen and brighten the image.
