I Have a new Kwikset 909 LO3 SMT CP unit - How do I change door handedness?

Installed per directions but realized that the directions all indicate a right handed door. Operation is backwards. There are no Door Handed jumper switches noticable as per your prior instructions for a Power Bolt. Latch Cylinder is labeleled clearly with 'up' indication, but in lieu of any other obvious options, can I simply turn tis upside down and have any success? Will it even line up?

SOURCE: how to reset kwikset pwerbolt 1000

6. Resetting the code: - please follow these instructions to reset the code on your Powerbolt 1000 unit:

  • Remove the inner cover plate from the lock.
  • Locate the small round program button near the left side of the circuit board (Red or Black).
  • To program, the latch should be extended out in the lock position, press the reset button once, then enter your 4-8 digit code on the exterior keypad, then immediately press the middle lock button on the exterior keypad. You will hear a beep. Re-enter the same 4-8 digit code to confirm, the latch should retract. This completes the programming. This signals that your code has been accepted.
  • To enter a second code, follow the same procedures as in step 3, but this time press the reset button twice then enter your code.
7. Replacing the batteries: - please follow these instructions to replace the batteries on your Powerbolt 1000 unit:
  • Remove inner cover plate located above the thumb turn on the inside of the door
  • Replace all 4 batteries with quality alkaline AA batteries. (Do not use rechargeable batteries.)
  • Ensure that the batteries are correctly oriented or unit will not function properly.

8. Changing the password code: - please follow these instructions:
  • Manually put the bolt in extended (lock) position. Press PROGRAM button once, enter new 4 - 8 digit code and then press LOCK.
  • Press PROGRAM button twice, enter the same new code and then press LOCK once.
  • Press PROGRAM button three times, enter the same new code and then press LOCK once.

These stept will program only the new code you enter for your unit.
9. Why is my Powerbolt 1000 unit beeping? - To determine why your lock is beeping, please follow these steps:
  • Take out batteries and unplug powerstrip.
  • Let is sit for 1 minute then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.
  • If it does not beep, the keypad needs to be replaced (17733-1).

It's a good time to replace the batteries while you're reprogramming. Please review each step carefully, because it's easy to goof up this programming process, if you don't follow the procedure properly.

Good luck!

Q: I just completed the installation of a Smart Code unit on my door; I am unable to operate it manually, although I checked for smooth bolt operation during installation. What should I do?
A: You need to run the "Bolt Direction" routine again; allow the process to run to completion see Section 8 in User's Manual.

So please go through the installation instruction's Section 8 again. (Remove the battery pack first.) It is important to follow this procedure very carefully for success!

If you feel that you are following all steps correctly but the lock is still not functioning properly, please contact the Kwikset Customer Support:

To make the keys light up when you want to enter your code, you have to push the lock button on the keypad first. If the keypad light never comes on, open the door and manually lock the interior lock, then press the keypad lock button. The above instructions should then work.
Good luck!

When you push the lock button it just beeps, it does not lock

You didn't indicate whether this is a new installation or not, so I don't know if it was working properly and has quit working or not set up correctly.

I'd recommend that you follow the installation instructions, installing fresh batteries at this time.

Here is a link to the installation instructions, which is a PDF file and requires that Adobe Reader be installed to view the file:

http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/content/BDHHI/40486-02

If this is a new installation, you may not have the door jumper properly set for the "handedness' of the door; see page 6 of the installation instructions for an explanation.
There are additional troubleshooting tips on page 9.
