My firewire wont work at all, bought new cable still work work. Took to repairers they say firewire board is damaged and a new one will cost about £110 plus labour and VAT totalling to about £200. Is repair reasonable or am I being taken for a ride?

1. Check with manufacturer to make sure you have the latest driver and firmware updates for your camera and computer.
2. Always turn the camera's power on before making a FireWire connection.
3. Disconnect the FireWire cable before turning the camera off.
4. Use the camera's AC adapter when making FireWire connections.
5. Try a different FireWire cable and try connecting the camera to a different computer. FireWire cables and ports sometimes fail.

Always turn the camera off....not on when firewire is being connected. After connections, switch on the camera. The firewire port has a delicate transitor which may short circuit with the sudden power from computer thru the dv port.

Likewise, switch off the camera before disconnecting the firewire.

the firewire connection will time out, and firewire unlink usb drops the connection instead of just going into a "sleep" mode.
