Your XP firewall is more than likely blocking it..

uninstall the fixya, restart PC, go into firewall settings and ensure that "do not allow exception" is NOT selected

The scanner no longer works on my X7170. It used to work just fine. Wondered if I had a setting change or something. It will copy no problem.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the everything turns back on, reconnect the printer into the computer. Wait for your computer to fully recognize the usb connection. Try to scan again.
You can also try to update your printer driver. Just insert the installation disc into the pc hard drive and run the setup application.

When I print either a word doc or excel I get nothing printed but only garbled language as 1 line sentence on the paper: Something like this: AQKM!SEU!QAGEQSOUECU=AUUOAQKM!SEU!SESOMUUIOO=711AQKM!

Is it printing like that only on Word and Excel? If not you better uninstall the printer driver and reinstall again.. sometimes installed drivers get mess up specialy if we have done some updates or installation in other software.

I cannot install my Deskjet 840c printer to my windows 7

The Deskjet 840c driver is included in the Win7 OS. You need to use Windows Update. Connect the data cable to the computer. Windows 7 should find the driver. If it doesn't, open Windows Update and check for updates. Look under Optional Updates.

If it still doesn't properly install the printer, disconnect the USB cable and then turn the printer off and then on again. Then open the Devices and Printers window and remove the printer (right click and choose Remove device). Remove all icons for the 840c if you have multiple in the control panel. Then reboot the computer and make sure your network connection is active. Reopen the Devices and Printers window and install the printer manually. To do this: click on Add a printer, choose Add a local printer then click Use an existing port. Select LPT1: (Printer Port) in the dropdown menu and click Next. Click on the Windows Update button and wait for the updates to be completed. Choose HP as the manufacturer and the Deskjet 800 series. Now connect the USB cable between the printer and the computer. You should see the installing device driver software window. Wait until the window disappears and then click Cancel on the Add a Printer Window.

If problems persist, try a new data cable. Try directly connecting to the computer if you are using a print server or USB hub. Make sure the computer USB ports are working. The ports can be disabled for security or power savings. (Check in the Device Manager (Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Device Manager) or from the advanced settings for the Screen Saver (right click on the desktop anywhere there are no icons or running programs, select Personalize and then click on the Screen Saver icon. then click on Change Power Settings and Change Plan Settings for the active plan).

I hope this helps.

My Lexmark 4550 will not sacn wirelessly, how do I

Hello. Try to run the installation cd in your computer again. If you haven't tried to uninstall the software from your computer, the cd should give you three options: Install a Printer, Repair/Update and Install Additional Softwares. Choose Repair/Update and just let it run and finish the installation. Also, make sure to allow all Lexmark and printer communications in your firewall. Try to scan wirelessly again. If problem needs further troubleshooting, I advise you to call Lexmark.

This printer worked fine till windows 6 explorer was installed what happened?

You might have a Driver issue.

Usually, a driver update isused as a solution to an issue with how Windows works with a piece of hardware.

Updating a driver can also enable new or updated features for the hardware.

To access Device Manager, use any of the following methods:
  • Click Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc.
  • Right-click My Computer, click Manage, and then click Device Manager.
  • Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  • Type the following command at a command prompt:start devmgmt.msc

You can use Device Manager to change the way your hardware isconfigured, and to change the way your hardware interacts with yourcomputer's programs. With Device Manager, you can update device driversfor hardware installed on your computer, modify hardware settings, andtroubleshoot problems.

Device Manager enables you to:
  • Determine if the hardware on your computer is working properly.
  • Change hardware configuration settings.
  • Identify the device drivers that are loaded for each device and obtain information about each device driver.
  • Change advanced settings and properties for devices.
  • Install updated device drivers2_bing.gif.
  • Disable, enable, and uninstall devices.
  • Reinstall the previous version of a driver.
  • Identify device conflicts and manually configure resource settings.
  • Print a summary of the devices that are installed on your computer.
If the device is experiencing a problem, the type of problem isdisplayed. You might also see a problem code and number and a suggestedsolution. If you call a support line, this number can be useful fordetermining and diagnosing the problem.

How to install a new driver from Device Manager loadTOCNode(2, 'summary');
  1. Double-click the type of device you want to update or change.
  2. Right-click the specific device driver you want to update or change.
