Yes, you can. The motherboard is equipped with a PCI-e port so you can plug in a graphics card.

Cannot install plugnplay video card in my dell optilplex gx520

A couple of questions for you and please do not get offended as they are basic questions to understand your issue better.

1. What type of video card are you trying to install, model number?

2. What operating system are you running on the PC?

3. Are there any software/hardware upgrades that have been done to the system?

Knowing this information will help me point you in the right direction.

Unable to upgrade onboard graphics on dell gx520

Try disabling your onboard graphics in the BIOS. Some BIOS allow this. If you have a sound card, disable the onboard sound too. Count your beeps. they contain a code. Go online and "Google" bios codes. This should give you a starting point to diagnose the problem.

I want to get a new video card But..

    For Motherboard interface:

mini tower version of the Optiplex GX520 appears to have one PCI Express Slot. other cases don't appear to have anything.

Check the photos on the link below to match up your form factor

For monitor, make sure you have a DVi port or something like that & that your card has a matching port or that you can get an acceptable adapter. If monitor not DV capable, HD video card will not help you much.
