My toshiba tercra 8200 will not boot up. the cd works but nothing else...and the cd rom only worked when i booted up or shut down the computer before this.
it did this before( wouldnt boot up) but all i had to do is restart the computer once or twice and then it worked fine but now it doesn't work at all. all the right lights light up when i try to boot up but i dont hear a hard drive spinning or any fans running..just the cd rom running

Please restart the computer and press the F2 Key to enter BIOS Setup. Then follow the onscreen instructions to locate the Menu for Boot Configuration to select First Boot Device as the CD-ROM Drive or DVD-ROM Drive. Then select F10 Key to save the changes and Exit. Now insert any bootable Operating System Disc and restart the computer to boot from the CD.
Hi, try pressing the ESC button during boot up, this will allow you to start in safe mode, from where you can change your passworg, via the control panel. (Sometimes its the Del button on sertain machines)
You can boot from XP cd. When prompted..press [R] this will launch recovery console. Choose your windows installation (typically by pressing  press return.. When prompted for password type chkdsk /r Press return..Windows will fix errors..type Exit and press return.. Let me know if that helps.
