Kirby heritage model 1hd. wires fell off safety switch. Need color to position on switch

if your looking at the back of the switch were the wires go in. Starting from left to right. you will see letter below the hole were the wires go in. for example, Y , yellow or " R " for red. this should help.

Kirby vacuum problem

I suspect the safety/power switch. When nozzle is on the Kirby the protrusion on the nozzle casting must press the switch on the front of the unit (circled in red in the pictures below). See if that protrusion is not chipped off. It may be that a hook or even both are damaged (circled in blue) so nozzle is a bit loose and when you bump something it nozzle moves just releases the switch enough to shut the vacuum off. Hold the nozzle and try to move it. See if it is loose on the unit or not.
It could be the faulty switch too.

I need help with replacing the belt
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The belt install on a Kirby is to raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then dial the belt off counter clockwise so it is loose and not on the fan pulley, release the top lever on the bell housing, then remove the bottom plate and unhook the brushroll on one side, slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on, replace the brushroll with the screws facing the carpet and re-hook the bottom plate on the Kirby. Then take the bell housing and hook that back on to the Kirby and lock it down. Then dial the belt on clockwise all the way and the belt should be on the fan pulley. The belt should be ready to go, plug in your Kirby and then do the step down on the vacuum height adjustment until the tone changes, then try to see id it picks up, if not go one more height adjustment and that should be the correct setting.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
Thanks, Don the Vac Man

Hello, I have a Generation 3 Kirby- it was working - I turned it off & it will not turn on again - is there a safety switch /reset button or did the on/off switch go out - I have had it 15 years & replaced the switch 1 time - Thanks
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The chances are it is the safety switch 1st and the foot switch 2nd. The safety switch is in the front of the fan housing of witch the bell housing hooks into. Both are about the same price plus labor. So feel free to do it yourself or to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. I'm not familiar with Kirby vacuums, but press your reset button a few times (if you have one). If that does not work, then it is most likely the switch. For a rough estimate of the switch or parts for your vacuum, please refer to Sears Parts website and have your model number ready.

take the cover off to get to the wiring and check the brushes - that is where the clear-insulated black & green wires terminate at the motor sides under the plastic caps

Kirby G3 won't run

sounds like brushes not being pressed down to the commutator shaft. pull out brushes and clean the brass brush guides and then apply a light coat of grease to brushes. however, what exactly do you mean by "the fan is OK"?
