PC locked up.

reboot in to safe mode (follow these steps)
1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
2. Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start "windows with networking", and then press ENTER.

See if your DSL line works in that mode. If it does, then we simply need to clean up your windows startup applications.

Who is your DSL provider?

How is an Emachine connected to the Internet by phone line?

Computers are connected to the internet by phone if you have set up a dial-up connection.
These days, the majority of users opt for high speed connections through a DSL or cable connection which uses an ethernet jack. (Looks like a phone jack, only larger).
If your computer has a modem built in, that is the way to plug it into the phone system. But you still need to pay an internet service provider to get an account to actually get to the internet.

I bought an E-Machine computer at a tag sale but it is password protected, how can I get in to it so that I can clean off the hard drive and set it up for my use?

Here is something you can try, Although some windows updates have prevented this from working. Reboot the computer and hold down the F8 key while the computer is booting continue to hold down the F8 key untill you are prompted with the option to boot in safe mode, Once you get this option select boot in safe made and let windows load, If it loads to the desktop then you can just go to the user accounts and change the password for the administrator account and then start clearing it off for your use.

If it does not load to the desktop after booting into safe mode, You may need to re-install windows because i believe that your system if purchased new would have come with restore cd's and not a seperate partition on the hard drive to do a restore of the computer.

Well i hope i was of some help to you, and good luck and as always if you ever need any more help feel free to ask.

When i connect webcam cable in to usb my internet connection is g

This is a problem on some computers that "share" a usb port and don't have seperate interrupts or aren't done correctly. Try a USB splitter from computer store or walmart ($10-15.00) and that should take care of you.

I have a Lexmark 5400 seies printer and just purchased a HP Windows Visa PC. I am having problems connecting the printer. It keeps telling me that the USB is not connected. I have checked this out and it...

A couple of questions: Are you using an accout that has install rights? (ie. Administrator level account ) Are you seeing the UAC (user account control) prompts if you are are you clicking allow this software to run? Can you install other software? If these are true then

at this point try removing all printer software, then restart computer. Now turn on printer connect usb cable to printer then plug into a usb port on the computer, Do you get a "Found New Hardware" popup window? If so remove the cable from the computer and restart the computer. Now insert the cd that came with printer and follow the instructions for the software installation. If you don't see a "Found New Hardware"prompt then try a new usb cable, or try leaving the printer connected and turning the printer off for about a minute then back on. If this doesn't help try leaving it connected and re booting your machine also try different usb ports on your machine. If none of this helps you may have account permission issues or just bad hardware.
I would really need more info about your machine configuration if these tips don't help

Can't remember 13 digit WEP code for Linksys router. I am creating seperate accounts on Windows XP laptop and each account has to have a seperate setup to get to the router. How to find the original WEP...

hi dear

try this

On windows
Start-->Run
cmd
ipconfig /all

write down the IP address of the Default Gateway on your Local Area Network Adapter.

Open your web browser and type http://{IP address of Default Gateway}
ie http://192.168.0.1

The Web Administration Username and Password should be
Username: admin and the Password should be left blank by default.

Enable the DHCP server on the router. Save the settings.

Now enable the Wireless radio and give it a name (SSID) and use encryption (64-Bit WEP is sufficient). Give it a 5 character password and REMEMBER IT (make it easy to remember like the first 5 digits or your phone number or your street address). Save the settings and the router should reboot.

Now plug the WAN the cat5 cable into the modem and then other end into the router's WAN port. Cycle the power on the router.

Wait about 30 seconds.
Go to the laptop of WiFi desktop and enable the WiFi connection and scan for WiFi networks. Connect to your (the SSID you entered) then type in the password and you should be good.

You can always use a cat5 ethernet cable and plug it into one of the 4 switch ports on the router to get a more reliable connection.

oke
