The scandsk utility has been replaced by chkdsk in newer versions of Windows.

Ahh, you are referring to a SanDisk memory card?? Be sure you are inserting it correctly. Does the card work in other computers/devices? Check Device Manager to see if there are any errors requiring updated drivers.

Scandisk is no longer a utility used by windows 2000 and beyond.

Instead, use chkdsk. You run it from a command prompt window. Running it will do a diagnosis. Run "chkdsk /f" to actually fix errors. You may need to reboot to have it done at boot time.

Hello, From the problem you have stated, your computer has been infected with virus or malicious program, do you have a good anti-virus, that is updatable, you have to scan your hard disk thoroughly to remove this viruses. simply right click on your hard disk and click on scan. After scanning remove all the infected files. Pri hard disk S.M.A.R.T BAD wont boot up what do i do

his could be caused by a couple of problems but you are going to need access to a second computer to determine the problem.

1) You have a disk that is failing and it has had an error. Got to the disk makers site and down load their diagnostic program and check the disk. This is a stand alone CD so you don't need to boot into the OS. SMART failures almost always are failing disks.

Another program that can temporarily fix errors is http://www.dposoft.net/ This program will stop after fixing the first error unless you buy it. Again, this is a stand alone.

If it is a disk error, you need to quickly get your data off and install a new disk.

Don't have a second computer? then you need to take it to a local computer store where they can remove the disk, install it in a desktop and check it for errors.

2) This could be a virus, but I think #1 is your problem. TrendMicro.com has a free online virus scan if you can install the disk in a second computer.

My old compaq presario wont read my scan disc

Can you use that port to read any other device? What operating system are you using?Did it work previously?Windows 98 you will have to install drivers.Chances are that old computer has a usb 1.0 so it might not work. However try another device in that port or any usb port on the computer to see if any ports are working.Does your scan disk work on another computer.Have you done a windows update recently.Make sure you try all the above.
Good luck

Cannot finish disk defrag

Hi!

Seen that before! microsofts defrag tool isent the best one if i may say so. If you have any programs running in the background it wont finnish, so you can either stop all running programs manualy and the defrag will finnish, OR you can Use another defrag tool,
Here are two:
O&O Defrag is one of the best, but its not free:

Auslogics Disk Defrag is a good toll and its free:

Now, make your chioce and enjoy a good defrag tool:)
