I turned the TV off and it won't turn back on.

This might be a remote control issue, so try this: remove the batteries from your remote, then press all of its buttons and install new batteries. If the problem persists after that, your TV may require repairs. Service can be obtained, if needed, by carrying your TV in to the place of purchase.

I am also having a problem with my Insignia NS-LCD42HD-09. When I turn it on it is distorted and ghostly. It usually clears up within 10 minutes, but it can revert back at anytime. The television will be 3 year old this December. Does anyone have any advice (other than calling the Geek Squad)

Best bet would be to unplug it completely and let it sit for about five minutes, plug it back in and turn it on, if it's still flickering there's more than likely something wrong with the backlight or the power supply. All Insignia TV's carry a 2 year manufactures warranty, so if it's less than two years old just take it to a Best Buy and have it serviced. It'll be gone for a few weeks, but either issue is an expensive fix.

I have almost the same problemwhen my tv is on it starts off by goin up and down and just jumpin I've had it 4-5 years now and just the beginnin of this year it starts jumpin. its not like back in the day when the old tv starts jumpin all u have 2 do is go 2 the back of the tv and play with a button that will stop it from jumpin now 4 this tv i have 2 call a mechanic to fix it so please can u help me

Since the TV is less then a year old and still under manufacturers warranty, I would suggest to take back to the vendor to get it fix because this LCD behavior is not going to get any better.
The failure on this TV is related to a power supply in most cases if the TV is turning OFF by itself or needs to be unplug to let cooldown and it works afterward.

There are other places you can take monitors to get worked on. I believe just about any TV repair facility will also be able to repair LCD TV's as well. You may want to first try something else first however. Go buy yourself a UPS Battery Backup that has AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) built-in. I'd try doing that before paying someone to try and fix it. Besides, if that doesn't do the trick, then you can always take it back for a full refund.

Unplug the set, wait a but, then try to re-start.
If not, put a hair dryer to the back of the set, near the top of the cover above the label. go back and forth for about 30-40 seconds.
Replug and restart,it shold work
