No matter how quickly you pull the trigger, the stapler fires multiple staples at once.

I also have the TRE500 which not only fires multiple staples, but also will not drive the staple flush with the old softwood sofa frame. One side of the staple drives deeper than the other side??

I even purchased a new carton of staples.

Anything I am doing wrong or is the electric gun just not poweful enough for the old wood?

    • Same problem....multiple staples regardless of soft or quick trigger. Also the staple does not embed fully thru the fabric into soft wood.

I would like to use this device to attach a painting to a frame, but am afraid it willl ruin the painting because it fires two or three staples every time I pull the trigger. I can't figure out how to slow it down.

I heartily agree with the above postings. We have had ours for a couple of years, and can verify that this Stanley item is a piece of junk.

SOURCE: Size of staple to install roll insulation in wall cavities.

It would seem that 9/16 is a bit long to attach canvas and may even penetrate through to the working surface unless the backer board is much thicker then 9/16.

1/4 or 3/8 may be more suitable.

Good luck

Morning Rhonda,

According to Stanley's own website, the TRE500 will only use either 1/2" or 5/8" brads.

My gun fires four or five staples all a once--is there an adjustment. with shooting so many staples at once then they do not go in all the way

  • This may or may not help, but I have one that was doing the same (as many as five at one trigger pull). I gave it the little WD40 and it still did the same. Then, I thought maybe it was the effect of not being used for a while. I proceeded to pull the trigger several hundred times (you can do this without staples loaded) and now, mine works fine. Seems to have helped.
