Did you put batteries in the bottom and swivel the light? The light automatically turns on when turned correctly.

Same problem, tried flipping it every which way with no luck - both the light itself and the arm that hold it. Finally, when trying to change the batteries, I noticed that they battery housing was odd: usually the positive end of the battery is against the node, and the negative end against the spring. This is true for one of the batteries, but for the other one has to turn it backwards, so that the positive end is against the spring. This is the only time I have seen a battery go in that way, and so naturally I had not looked for -/+ labels, but had just put the batteries in the housing in the way one would assume they go. When I changed the one around (and it was labeled that way), it solved the problem and the light came on. I don't know if I just got lucky, but you might as well try and see if it works for you.

I had this same problem...I spent about a half and hour messing with bulbs and batteries, and then my 9 year old finally figured out that all that we had to do was turn the light side up (to face to bottom of the black plate) and it comes on automatically. When turned down towards the feet of the microscope, it shuts off. Hope this helps!

Need replacement part for my sons vivitar microscope set

You turn the light on by LITTERALLY turning the light on it's hinges. It swivels and when the light is in it's downward position (with the little light bulb pointing towards the ground) it is off. When you flip it over (with the little light bulb pointing towards the the veiwing platform) it should turn on.

If you look closely, you'll see the metal-to-metal contact pieces that trigger the light to come on.

Good luck!

Light

On ours, we had this same problem and all we ended up having to do was turn the light bulb up towards the black plate and it comes on, then turn the bulb down towards the feet of the microscope and it goes back off.
