Garmin wont read street names anymore

I have a garmin nuvi 260w and it recently stopped reading the street names. It will only say turn left or turn right. What do I need to do to reactivate this feature?

Thanks

My nuvi 260w was working fine and then shut off. When I switched it on it said loading maps and then it gave this error message "No detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them" Now the GPS does seemt i work even if I reset it. Anyone out there who can help me? Have I lost all the addresses that I had saved.

To activate the voice prompts, go to 1. Tools, 2. Settings, 3. Language, 4. Voice Language Option, 5 Select a Voice Option that includes a persons Name, eg Jack or TTS, Select OK and that should resolve your problem.

Gamin nuvi 260W - Cannot set to text-to-voice.

Garmin automotive GPS devices that have text-to-speech (speak street names) are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (example: "Turn Right in 500 feet"). If one of these pre-recorded voices has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
To change the voice prompt to spoken street names:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings*
  3. Select Language or Locale
  4. Touch the Voice language option
  5. Select a voice option that includes a person's name (ex. Emily) or TTS. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Select OK
The device should now speak street names.
*Note: The Setting option is not required on all nuvi units.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

Garmin nuvi 650

Got a solution for you:

You need to set the language properly in order to get the speech for street name

Go to setup --> Locale - Voice Language

Select language with TTS (Text-To_Speech) next to it:

ie:
American English-Jack (TTS )
American English-Jill (TTS)
Australia English-Karen (TTS)
