DS Lite Shuts down when closed instead of pausing game

WHen I am playing a game and need to pause, I used to be able to simply close the console and it would pause. Now, at least 50% of the time, it shuts down completely without saving my game. Any ideas how to fix this?

Make sure before closing the DS that your Battery is Charged. If you have to step away for a considerable amount of time, plug the DS in to the AC adapter then close the DS.

You may also want to check out the battery to make sure that no moisture has gotten in to the case. Just a little moisture can short out the DS and Shut it down. You also can check online to purchase a new battery for the ds. They gave one available at Buy.com for 6.99.

You have either a pirated game or a game that was previously played on a hacked DS; this is an anti-piracy measure found in ROMs of the game or on cartridges that have been used in hacked devices. I had this exact thing happen to me as well. Wherever you bought it, you should return it immediately and get your money back.

Hello there.

Usually, games on DS has a pause option by pressing "START". But there are some games which doesn't have that option, but you can still pause it by "Closing the DS" so it will go to "Sleep". Don't turn it off! Just close it.

Replaced Nintendo DS case for broken hinge. If I press start to 'pause' a game, I cannot press 'start' or the 'A' key to resume play - must shut unit off. Any suggestions on what the issue may be?
The issue could be that the buttons aren't hitting the contacts or you might have shorted something out when you opened up your system.

Help my son selected spanish on his ds toy story 3 game and I cannot change it !! the actual console is set to english but there's no menu when the games inserted it goes streight in to the game help !!!
Start the story mode (top left icon) in story mode press start to bring up the pause menu the language select is the fourth option down. :)

Pausing or freezing during play
Either upgrade your system firmware and if that dosent work the sytem needs to be sent to sonty fo repair.

DS Lite shuts off when it is closed or the back is hit hard enough
Your DS is having a circuitry problem and you may have to get it sent off for repair before the problem gets worse, the cause of this could of been 1. dropped it accidentally or 2. its having a hissy fit.
