Re: no connection

I am assuming you have firstly installed the printer driver, then connected the printer. If you have try using a different usb port. Is the printer showing in your fax and printers menu, if so right click on it and see if it needs to be put online.

How do i connect this printer to my computer?

I would use a simple Printer USB cord. Your computer will likely find and install all the proper drivers, or use the driver installation disc that came with the printer.

Here's the full user manual with all instructions:

If you do not have the installation disc, it can be easily found on the HP website.

It may very well be drawing too much power from your laptop. These are fairly intolerant of devices that draw higher current like printers and some hard drives. You may need to get a small USB Self-powered hub. These are USB hub/splitters that have their own power supplies. These usually provide and tolerate higher power draw. To test, if you can connect the same printer to a desktop, you will likely see it works fine.

Can we use Brother 2800 as a printer with PC ? Driver is for 2820 but is there a way do this anyway? Thanks

follow this step: Connecting the facsimile machine to your computer (1) Make sure that your computer is turned off. (2) Make sure that the machine's power cord is unplugged from a wall socket. (If the machine has a power ON/OFF switch, make sure that the switch is turned off.) (3) Connect the parallel interface cable to the parallel port on the back of the machine and secure it with the lock wires. (4) Connect the other end of the interface cable to the printer port of your computer and secure it with the two screws. (5) While pressing the 5 key on the machine's control panel, plug the machine's power cord into a wall socket (or turn on the power ON/OFF switch if the machine has the switch). (6) Check to see that the following pattern displays on the LCD. If it does not display, go back to step (2) above. ← Blank-and-black patterns (7) Turn on your computer.

Line in use

Hi there, the fax machine on your all-in-one printer is really handy when it works properly. Getting your fax capability back requires a troubleshootingmag-glass_10x10.gif process that moves through the possible causes of a problem and arrives at a solution. Follow these steps to troubleshoot the fax machine on an all-in-one printer.

  • Plug the power cords in, push the power buttons on and get everything up and running. Sounds simple, but lack of power is the culprit quite often.
  • Step 2.Check for a phone connection in the correct input jack. Some printers with fax capability have more than one phone jack so you can hook up an answering machine or another phone "downstream" from the printer. Consult your instruction manual to determine the right connection for your printer.
  • Step 3.Swap out the all-in-one printer for a working phone to find out if the problem is in the phone line coming from the wall. Once you hook up the phone, you should get a dial tone if the line is working. Remember to reconnect the all-in-one printer after you're done.

How to install new brother printer 2820

How to install it as what? A fax machine? Or a printer/scanner?

To install as a FAX, just plug a phone line cord into the port that says "Line", plug the power cord in and you're done.

As a printer, go to Brothers web site and download the software for your machine. Install the software, plug a USB cable into the machine and the computer and follow the on screen instructions. It's really that simple.

I can't receive and send fax

The splitter the technician is referring to goes on the wall jack. One should have come with the "modem" installation package.
Take a regular telephone cord and plug one end into the splitter and the other into the line jack on the Fax/printer.
When your done you should have two phone cords connected to the splitter - one going to the "modem" and the other to the printer.
