I am trying to set up my s-air system for my sony home theater system (hdx277wc) and the I keep getting a "pairing failure" message when I try to pair the main and sub systems. I've followed all instructions in the maual and nothing is working and I am not getting any sound from the s-air unit.

While it is trying to "pair" , there is a little button in the back of the unit, it is recessed so you need a pencil/pen. Push it and it should help the unit pair with the main

On the off-chance try e-bay... I had a miss functioning remote control on a kenwood home theatre system, searched everywhere for a replacement, then tried e-bay.. Chanced on someone who had found a remote control of the same model after selling their system (I was amazed by the coincidence), worth trying.

MHC-DP900D HAD SAME PROBLEM- PROTECT, PUSH POWER. TRACED CAUSE TO AMP. DC PROTECTION CIRCUIT ON AMPLIFIER BOARD. ACTUAL FAULT WAS A SHORT CIRCUIT OF THE AMP. IC LEFT CHANNEL OUPUTS (STK412-030 PINS 10 & 11)
EXCESSIVE SOLDER APPLIED DURING MANUFACTURE HAD PROBABLY BEEN HEATED UP ENOUGH DURING USAGE TO BRIDGE THE PINS. CURRENTLY USING THE UNIT WITH RIGHT CHANNEL ONLY UNTIL I PURCHASE A NEW IC. BYPASSED DC PROTECTION FOR LEFT CHANNEL BY ISOLATING INPUT TO DC DETECT TRANSISTOR.
This is what I could find, it looks like it will need serviceing unless you can do it yourself, it can be deadly if you don't know exactly what you are doing.
Thanks for the fixya rating, hope this helps

Jvc protect

Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.
