Question about HP DESKJET PRINTER, HP OR COMPATIBLE
I use a Toshiba Satellite laptop and an HP deskjet all-in-one printer/scanner (F4100). It worked fine until recently when it started saying that it was unable to communicate with the scanning device (when trying to scan). I checked the cord connecting the laptop and the printer, but it didn't correct the problem. When it isn't saying it can't connect, it just says it cannot locate a printer and now when I try to use the HP Solution Center (the software that came with the printer) it just shuts down and says the program has stopped working. I have tried completely uninstalling and re-installing the program, but it doesn't fix the problem. Any suggestions?
I have heard of this problem several times. Try another USB port (I'll assume it is USB and not parallel).
If that does not work, pay the $35.00 to HP and have them walk you thru their steps to repair. NOTE: HP software/drivers of-late are *extremely* finicky to keep on-line! Esp. with the scanning part. Want a very good, inexpensive, AIO printer that just *works*!?!?!? Buy anything from Canon. They're hardware is exceptional, their software is not intrusive (like HP), and it just...... works!
