dissambling and taking the hard drive out of the dvr will most likely void the warrenty how it is possible.

once the hard drive is removed you may be able to plug it into your PC and gain access to the files on the hard drive. These how ever may be specially encoded and protected files that you cant open.

-you PVR may have also done a hard reset and formatted the hard drive. This would delete all the files on the PVR.

-unlike tapes, erasing a hard drive does not require you to record over it. just because nothing else has been recorded does not mean your data is still there. sorry.

I have a jvc SR-DVM70 - The hard drive is about 75% full of data so I don't want to lose that. The deck was working fine recording through the firewire to the hd. Problem was it didn't playback through the...

The hard disk hasn't been recognized in Windows because the JVC runs Linux so the drive was formatted in EXT3 which Windows can't read.
Simple fix to recover all your data: connect the disk back to the pc and boot from a Linux Live-CD like
http://pclinuxos.com/
In there all you have to do is to copy all the content of the disk to your local disk (PCLinuxOS can read and write securely on NTFS/Windows disks). Or you could just burn them to some dvd's.
For the rest: 1 - on the CS pins; 2 - no.

I just accidentally erased the hard disk of all it's programs. Is there a way to recover the deleted programs?

If you haven't recorded any thing since then you might be able to by removing the drive and third party to restore the files.

A problem with a disk after inicjalizing it in windows

I have swapped hard drives in my DMR-EH55 several times when I was trying to see if a larger hard drive would give me more recording time. After several days of playing around I was unable to increase it beyond 92 hours. Anyways, back to your question, I have lost the contents of my hard drive twice from swapping around and hooking up to my computer to try and copy contents, so in my experience I don't think you will be successful. Since this is an older post, perhaps you were and if so, please post solution.

PS - firmware update image is available from Panasonic's website if your unit is asking for lLD FVU

Hard Disk erased

First of all, Don't Record Anything else on this machine! Even though you have "deleted" items, they live on the disc still. However, anything you now record May be written over the files you have come to know and love, and that's why it's Important to try and follow this advice. After that, you can utilize an "undelete" code to restore your titles....accordianman

Hard drive shows full even after erasing 120 hours.

You should empty the recycled bin in the system and delete all temporary files on it.

Had the same problem ourselves.

Press set up on remote control.

Press the down button on remote control 5 times then press select.

Press the down button 2 times and press select.

Press select again. After 5 to 10 seconds the machine will switch itself off.

Turn off at the mains and then turn back on again and the dvd goes into preparing mode.

Go to AV channel and go through initial set up as you have just reset to factory conditions.Don't worry about any programmes on the hard drive they will still be there.Worked for us.
