Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC21 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Sony Handycam keeps shutting down when using battery

It will turn off and on and off and on continously. I've tried 2 different batteries same result. If I get it on and don't move it the battery will work fine, but I kind of need to move the camera some. Ideas?

I can put new batteries in, turn the camera on & take pictures for a few minutes, turn the camera off, when I try to turn it back on the batteries are dead.

Greta, If they are cheaper batteries, that is probably the problem.
CAMERAS TAKE A LOT OF JUICE, try a better grade battery like Duracell and see if you get better results, make sure batteries have fresh date code and not expired

MY Hc v110 Camcorder is not turning on. I've checked the battery and that's completely fine. HELP

How do you know the battery is actually "fine"? Did you put a meter on it or have you tried another battery? The battery can show to be charged but not working if it's gone bad.

Also, try removing the battery for at least 60 minutes, check and clean the contacts on the battery and in the camera, then install the battery and see if it will start. Sometimes removing the battery for some time will reset the camera.

Camileo P10 charging problem

I had the same problem with the P10 not charging via USB, I purchased mine second hand so it came with no charger. I assumed it would charge by the USB cable but it did not, the red light flashes but doesn't charge. Luckily I have an external battery charger for a different camera i got some years ago that takes a similar battery , the P10 battery didn't fit properly so I had to place it at a 45 degree angle into the charger making sure the outer contacts were lined up properly and taped it into place. After an hour it was fully charged and the camera is working fine. The charger is a 4.2 volt charger. New external chargers can be picked up on ebay cheaply

It sounds like it could be: (1) Video track on the tape might be messed up. Or (2) The heads on the camera may be dirty. Or, (3) It may be dirty battery connection. (Most likely, it's dirty heads.)

Solutions: (1) Try playback with a different tape that you know is good. Still nothing?? (2) Run a head cleaner specific to your camera, for about 20 seconds. Remove head cleaner and wait 10 to 15 minutes. Put tape back in and try playback again. This will probably solve it.

Another thing to try.. (3) Turn camera OFF. Remove the battery, wipe off the connectors on both the battery and the camera with a clean cloth. Return battery to the camera.Try playback again.

If these steps don't solve the playback problem, you will probably need a camera repair person.

Sometimes the batteries for these camcorders just go bad. There's nothing you can do to fix the battery itself, but you can find them really cheap online. If you don't think the battery is bad, and you just don't know how to charge the battery, you can find the manual on Panasonic's site. You can click support, and there will be a place to enter the model number. It will be on the camera, probably on the bottom. If you enter a model number that doesn't fetch results, try a different number (or combination of letters and numbers) until it does find results for your camera. Most of these small cameras have a small door, or attached cap that you have to pop up and open with your fingernail (they are small, so look carefully, most likely around the bottom or back of the camera). Plug the charger in and wait to see if the battery charges. If it does, the Palmcorder will stop turning off a few seconds after you turn it on.
