No bootable devices

Make sure you don't have anything in the CD/DvD Drive. It sounds like your system is trying to boot from something other than your hard drive.

Turn the system off then press the power button to restart it. Watch the screen for which key it says to hit to Change the Boot Order or Boot Sequence and hit that key when you see the message. Select the Hard Drive as your boot device and let it boot up again. This is a temporary change that is only good for the current boot cycle.

It the system boots then you want to restart the computer and this time watch the screen and see which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup and hit that key. When it opens tab over to the Boot and set your boot order or boot sequence to have the CD/DvD drive 1st and your Hard Drive 2nd. This is the normal way so that if your hard drive ever fails to boot you can put a cd in the drive to remedy the problem. Otherwise, just make sure nothing is in the cd/dvd drive when you turn the boot the computer.

CD/DVD driver not working

A few solutions:
1. Have you tried to clean your cd/dvd lens? Probably your lens is getting weak.

2. For advance user: Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
- Look for DVD/CD-ROM drives and delete the subkey.
- Restart your machine.

3. Let Microsoft FixIt help you:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

Worst case - Get a new CD/DVD-ROM for the replacement.

Don't forget to thumb up! ;) Good luck!

How to reboot fro cd

To boot your computer from a CD, first restart it. When it is starting up you will see a screen with your computer's manufacturer's logo (ie. HP, Acer, Samsung, Dell, etc.) On the bottom of this screen it should say what button to press to get to the boot menu. The button is usually escape, F1 or F2. You must press this button before the screen goes away. If you don't press the button in time then restart your computer and try again. Once you get to the BIOS boot menu, you will be presented a list of digital storage devices attached to your computer like USB drives, CD's, and hard drives. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select a device to boot from (select your CD drive.) Then press enter to begin booting from the CD. Good luck!

How to reformat laptop

  • 1

If you have the recovery cd, you can just pop-in the CD, select the reformat option and the installation process will continue automatically. Some laptop might have a special partition in the drive contains the operating system, drivers, etc. in case you want to reformat your laptop without the CD.

If you don't have the recovery CD, you usually can request one from the manufacturer. Otherwise, if you want to do a clean install, make sure you download all the drivers for your laptop, this may includes: motherboard, chipset, graphic card, sound card, modem, network card. Once you do that, put in the OS CD and start installing.

If you decided to do a clean install without the recovery CD, it would be best to create partition on your harddrive first, so you can have dedicated partition for operating system and backup. The next time you want to reformat your harddrive, you can just reformat that particular partition ex. C:\

Hi I posted a problem last night about my asus eee pc 1005ha... kept rebooting at windows load screen. so I brought a dvd burner to run windows disk & do repar. it would go through everything fine...

    Hi.

Solving your problem is just as easy as 2 hour work. not more..

By the time you were having the restarting problems.. all you had to do was to boot from usb cd-rom using Hirenes boot cd 10.

It starts a small intergrated windows. then you would have to go to a menu to stop some un-named startup bugs that cause the restart when Explorer.exe is being executed by windows.

so now, if you have your backups safe, get instruction on the internet on how to make a bootable usb windows vista or 7 Setup. windows seven comes with many drivers for new laptops.

Boot your computer from USB flash disk, run the windows 7 setup and enjoy..

hope this information helps you because it helped me with Acer One netbook..

    good luck

My cd drive does not reconise any cd/dvd, cant install new software. I have a Fujitsu Amilo laptop.

Does the drive show up at all under "My computer" (in Win XP) or "Computer" (in Win Vista or 7)? If not then try this "fix it" article from Microsoft. LINK

If the drive shows up, but it won't read any type of disc, then the most likely cause is that the laser has died in the drive, and the drive would need to be replaced. This is fairly rare in newer optical drives, but was rather common in drives produced more than 6 to 8 years ago.
