Question about Sony PlayStation 3 40GB System

1 Answer

I made a mistake and had my av and hdmi cords pluged into my tv and ps3 at the same time. The screen turned red. I got scared and had put my finger over the power button for five seconds now I have a blank screen.

Turn the system off then turn it back on and keep holding the power button , when you hear the system beep let go watch the light blink or look for any changes on the screen display, if no change in screen yet turn off and back on again. If no change i would advice that you get it contact with Sony and consider getting a replacement.

Playstation 3 works fine useing the av hook up but won;t work with hdmi cable hook up.

First, make sure your TV is on the appropriate input for the plugged in HDMI cable. Once this is completed, turn your ps3 on. If the screen comes on and is black, turn the ps3 to standby (red light is on) and hold the front power button until the console beeps a second time. This will usually force the ps3 to recognize the hdmi input and will bring up the menu to configure the AV settings.

Yesterday, i played my PS3 on a hd tv using the hdmi cord for the first time, then when switching back to a regular tv and using the red, white , and yellow rca cord, the ps menu didn't show?

There are a few ways to remedy this situation.

1) If you have access to that HDMI port on the TV, plug it back in and switch the settings back to composite. Your screen will go black which means you did it right.

2) I've only done this once and it was a trial-by-error step. Plug it into the tv, turn it on, hold your finger over the power button to turn it off. Hold your finger over the power button when turning it on. After a few cycles it worked for me. Key thing is to keep reseting it.

The safest thing to do is get the HDMI tv to switch your settings back

When i plug my hdmi cable into the back of my PS3, it says no input on my TV ?

you need to connect both the yellow red white cable and the hdmi cable into your ps3 and go the yellow red white av channel

go to the ps3 settings and change the video settings (ithink) to hdmi and also change the sound to hdmi

the screen will go blank and then the tv should change to the hdmi av channel if not change to it and accept the changes

My ps3 will not show a display of my tv

it might be the video cord depending on what your using, if you are using a HDMI cord you may want to use the normal AVI cords to set your ps3 for HD and them go back to the HDMI

How do you change the output setting from hdmi to the rca cable setings? I have no picture screen on my crt tv.

you have to reset the ps3 because you have it with hdmi before and the ps3 is looking for an hdmi connection is very easy and there is nothing wrong with your ps3 ok so do the follow
turn the power switch off on the back of the unit then put your finger in the on/off switch now turn the main switch on the back of the unit you will heard a first bip sound this is when your ps3 turns on ok keep your finger there in the on/off switch until you heard another bip sound now remove your finger from the on/off switch and bingo this will reset your video settings now you can see picture again using regular av and every time you use hdmi you have to do this again

No signal on my TV

try connecting the ps3 to the HDMI only, now when the ps3 is off and all but the single red light is on rest your finger on the on button for about 8 seconds, as soon as you touch it it will turn on but just wait a bit and you'll here the a second beep- this should reset your ps3's video output settings. Try it out, it works for me when i go back and forth from av to HDMI.

Please remember to rate my response if helpful.

No picture displayed on screen

OK, I am assuming you are using the same TV, PS3, cables etc that you were using before you went on vacation. Turn off the PS3...we are going to reset the video display. make sure everything is connected properly before we start. now here we "kinda" gonna turn it on, except you will hold your finger on the touch sensative power button until it beeps several times in a row with about a half second between beeps. It should reset the PS3 and the resolution.

If you get nothing on the screen after trying this several times, you should gather up 150 bucks and call sony for hardware repair.

No sound from ps3 to home cinema via an optical cable

If you have not run the set up you will need to, however I'm guessing you did because you would have had to make some changes to the settings to get the image to come up on the screen but without being physically at your location I can just guess.

In order to view your PS3 in full 1080p you need the HDMI cable which you already have. If you have not gone into your video settings then you are not viewing via the HDMI cable and you will need to to get things working right.
In order to view via the HDMI cable you would have had to had both the standard PS3 interface cable that comes in the box (the one that goes from the PS3 to your tv with the composite video (yellow) and the left and right audio (red and white) and the HDMI cable pluged into your PS3 and your tv at the same time. then you turn on the PS3 making sure your TV was set to whatever imput the composite and left/right audio is pluged into (typically VIDEO 1,2,3 ect.) and enter the menu, go to the settings and then down to your display settings and change it to HDMI, the image should then leave the screen (because it switched to HDMI) you will need to have your TV remote handy for this because you will need to switch sources on your tv to HDMI 1,2,3 ect, which ever one you have it pluged into. When you have switched to the right HDMI imput there should be an on the screen that is counting down and asking you if you want to accept the changes. Select yes and Move on through the settings selecting the maximum resolution your tv is capeable of
720, 1080i, 1080p) which can be found on the box the tv came in or somewhere on the tv or manual. While running this settings change it should ask you the audio source you are using make sure you select Digital Optical and that it is pluged in to you PS3 and your reciever. Once this is all done you can remeove the standard PS3 hook up that came with the box and put it away you wont need it any more, unless you move the PS3 around and the tv you move it to does not have HDMI in which case you will have to change the settings before you move it back to the standard cable or you will not be able to see it displayed on the tv sceen you move to and it will be impossible to run the settings.

If you have already done that and just want to verify that your source for audio originating from the PS3 is digital optical you can check that in the same settings menu under audio settings. Then make sure the reciver is on and set to whatever imput you have the cable pluged into and you should be good to go.

If all that I have described has been done already then the audio cable could be bad or the problem lies internaly with the PS3 or the reciever.
Good Luck hope this helps

Ps3 wont show up on tv

Hey i just posted i have the same problem as you do but then I checked the SONY PS3 website and it solved my problem. Try resetting your video output. I'll paste what it says on the PS3 website but if that doesn't solve your problem go to the website. They have a bunch of troubleshooting solutions for this problem...

If while manually changing the Video Output Settings, the screen remains blank for more than 30 seconds, you may need to perform the following steps to reset the Video Output Settings.

  1. Make sure the Component AV Cable is connected to the [AV MULTI-OUT] port on the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system.
  2. Connect the other end of the Component AV Cable into the video and audio RCA jacks of the TV or display monitor.
  3. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings.
  4. Turn ON the PLAYSTATION 3 and once the system finishes powering up, the Video Output Settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution (or detect the current display output settings of your TV/monitor).
