Question about Panasonic DMR-ES40VS DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Panasonic DMR-ES40VS Have had it just over a year, and all of a sudden, the screen is split - approx. 1/2 on each side - whether playing a VHS, or DVD, or just watching TV. Image quality is still good. There appears to be two small yellow vertical lines near the split - and they spread slightly like a Y at the upper part of the screen. Sound quality is fine.

Re: Panasonic DMR-ES40VS

I called Panasonic, and they told me to try a reset. I'm sorry, but I forgot which button to push and hold to reset it, but it has worked GREAT ever since! A local shop said it was a loss when I described the problem to them. Call the Panasonic Service Center, and they can tell you how to do a reset.

Panasonic ES40v - Can't play DVD's - Incorrect region

I had the same trouble, also wouldn't play back discs that I recorded using it. The commonly listed reset of channel up and down at the same time was not meant for this model.
Below is the official solution that was sent to me by panasonic.
After using this method to reset my player it worked great. it was just like taking it out of the box for the first time.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry, reguarding model DMR-ES40V.

Try this reset to fix the issue.

1. Unit power must be on.

2. Press [STOP] & [VHS > DVD] ON THE UNIT for over 5 seconds.

Thank you for contacting Panasonic.

Thank You,
Panasonic Consumer Support

Panasonic DMR ES40v

We need to narrow down where the problem lies. Even without finalizing the disc, you should be able to play back the recording. Can you do this? If you can play back the recording, the problem exists in the finalization stage and we'll need to concentrate there. Please update this and we'll proceed to the next step.

Two problems at the same time: VCR plays split screen and DVD player won't ready Disks (Errrrr)

Getting a new one is about all you can do in this case. A repair for this type of problem would likely cost more than the replacement.

VHS will not eject tape

So open up the casing and retrieve the tape. I have done it a few times and it is not hard. Not sure if fixing it is worth it. I just buy a new one for cheap.

Sudden split screen

Your dvd player is in progressive mode, and your tv isnt capable of playing progressive mode.  To fix this, look on your remote for a button called "Progressive", and press it.  If you dont have a button like that, then look through your service manual for anything that says progressive mode, and it should give instructions on how to set it back to interlace mode.  This is a very common problem I come across when servicing DVD players, as inadvertently pressing the wrong button the remote will cause this.
