When you bought you pc, dident you installed the OS?
Today almost all pc:s have all programs in a separate partition on the disc, and when u start your new pc the first time you start whit the installation of the OS, beside the OS there are a lots of program who be instaled in the background. Some are good, some are just ****, but same programs follows every pc from Gateway.
If you pc where redy to just start and run i guess the store did the installation, not Gateway.
The store do that so the can use the pc as a demo-machine, nothing strange about that

Is it possible to move Vista from one computer to another without the disc? I have a product key for the Vista that was installed. The original OS was XP and Vista was purchased and installed. I got this...

It can be done if:
1) the i386 directory was installed on the first PC
2) the first machine is being scrapped (must happen or you violate the Microsoft EULA)
3) you can burn a copy of the Vista i386 directory

There are additional things to do to complete the process, but the answers to the above will determine if it can be done.

Modem for dial-up

Well I hate to be the one to break the news but their is no such thing as a fast modem. They are all 56Kbps which is slow....the only fast modem is a DSL modem, but that is outside the computer and it gets hooked up with your phone company or your Internet Service Provider. Check the invoice or packaging slip and see if it says "DSL Modem capability"..if so then you are ok but your ISP has to install it.

Blue Screen

Is this still under warranty? If not then you'll just need to buy another HDD (hard drive device) and connect that one where the old was. Re-install XP or Vista. Conact Gateway or go to the Gateway web site to see what was hardware was supported for your system.

HDD IDE/EIDE or SATA/SATA II
OS XP or Vista

After you find out the info just install the new HDD, and install the OS. I only recommend doing this since you can't even get into the Safe Mode. When everything is back up and running you can also re-attach the old drive to what is called Slave or CS (cable select) this is more automatic process. Then you'll be able to recover any data missing that you need that was on the older drive.

Window stops in middle of session have to shut down and restart computer????

hi im wesley. you might have a virus of some sorts or try defragmenting your pc it will also speed it up as this sometimes happens when you have alot of things on your pc and when you delete stuff and put files on all the time it slows down alot and can hang because the files are mixed up on the hard drive. to defragment go to start-all programs-accesories-system tools-defragment then say analyze then defragment.
