HI. The camera is 2-3 months old. After being dropped straight into the lents mechanism it didn't manage to retract it back and displayed "turn off then on" or something like that. Having some knoledge about electronics and cameras I've dissasembled the thing and succesfully repaired it. However when I try to recharge the battery (the included li-ion) the charger lights up the amber LED for 1min then it turns off, i suggest some sort of protection. When the battery is inserted intro the camera (the camera works normally now) after some 1-2 min it shows a warning message to "use only aproved or compatible batteries" or something like that, then it powers off. Is the battery dead? Some internal circuits of the battery failed or something? As I live in romania, service centers aren't a choice in my city, but as I have the proper tools and experience I would ask for a more straight approach of this problem :) (as I have nothing to loose, except the battery of course).
The battery has a third terminal which feeds back data to the cameras microprocessor, if the camera gets dropped the battery block can get damaged and this signal does not get to the CPU. The camera thinks that you're attempting to use a generic battery and displays a warning, then shuts off. Check to see if the 3.0 volt DC voltage is present on the center pin of the battery connector, if it's there, you can safely assume the data is there as well. I wish you luck! Hi,
Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.
Performing a manual power reset
Turn off the camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
Reinsert the battery pack.
Turn on the camera.
To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the SET UP1 Menu of the Camera to OK.This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.
If the issue persists, service may be required.
Thanks for contacting FixYa.

Thanks, managed to solve the problem, it wasn't the battery, it was the camera who had some problems. A small connector under the main board wasn't connected properly. Because of that one, the mainboard didn't receive the third terminal signal from the battery.
Thaks for your assistance.
I love my Sony Cyber-shot but recently the camera won't accept the battery that it came with saying it is incompatible. I've read some posts that say the problem is with some circuitry in the camera, is there an easy way to fix this without having to part with my camera for a few days or, gasp, weeks?
