I have the coolpix s33. On the top of the view screen there is a flashing red square with a clock What is this representing and how do I remove it

The camera has a 10 second self timer. usually when you want to use it.. It only works for one image so you have to set it up for self timer again. On the back you may be able to set the camera to use the self timer. The only ICON I know of in most cameras that has a clock is the self timer.

Say camera is in Tripod and you want to take a group shot and YOU want to be in the photo. You set up and put on Self Timer. You press the shutter and it will take 10 seconds before taking the photo... Enough time for YOU to get int he shot.

To use the self-timer, press cursor-left (marked with a one-handed clock). Use cursor-up/down to select the desired self-timer mode. Press the shutter button halfway to focus, then press it the rest of the way to start the self-timer.

Full details are in the "Taking Pictures with the Self-timer" section on page 32 of the manual.

How the heck do I simply take a delayed photo from a tripod so I can be in the photo...who do you set the timer? ....or can this camera even take a delayed photo?

In any still mode, press the cursor-down button (marked with a one-handed clock) to cycle through the available self-timer modes. Start the self-timer by pressing the shutter release button.

Full details are in the extended user guide in the "Using the self-timer" subsection of the "Doing more with your camera" section.

Describe how to use the self timer on the samsung S830 digital camera

Make sure you're in a recording mode other than VOICE.

Press the Self-Timer button (right button) until the display shows the desired mode. Your choices are 10-second mode (the camera takes a picture ten seconds after you press the shutter button), 2-second mode (the camera takes a picture two seconds after you press the shutter button), and Double-self-timer (the camera takes a picture ten seconds after you press the shutter button, then takes another two seconds later).

You can cancel the self-timer mode by pressing the Self-Timer button again.

The 10-second mode allows you to run back for a group picture. The 2-second mode is useful when you want to take a picture without fear of camera shake; simply place the camera on a steady support such as a tripod. The Double mode increases the chances of getting a picture with everybody's eyes open.

This command dial setting, which looks like a clock, is the self-timer mode. Turn the dial to this setting and press the shutter release. The camera will start beeping or playing a tune and will take a photo about 10 seconds later. You can cancel the timer by switching the camera to another mode (or turning it off) before the picture is shot.

Note that the timer mode is the same as P mode with the 10 second timer. There’s no way to operate the camera in, say, Av mode with a timer - something of a limitation. There’s also no way to change the time value.

Self-timer mode is commonly used for two things. First, it lets you take self-portraits - or group shots including you - if you put the camera onto a tripod. And second, it’s useful for slow shutter speed shots where camera blur might be a problem - you can put the camera onto a tripod and take the photo without risking camera shake caused by your finger pressing the shutter release. In either case it’s best to focus on the subject first and then switch the lens to manual focus mode once you’re satisfied. This avoids the problem of the camera autofocussing on the wrong thing when it takes a photo unattended.

Note one detail. Normally when you take a photo you’re looking through the viewfinder and your face is therefore covering it. However, in self-timer mode the viewfinder is left uncovered and stray light can enter the camera, possibly throwing off the internal light meter. So when using the timer it’s wise to cover the viewfinder with something. Some camera straps include a plastic cover on one end that can be used to cover the viewfinder. Or you could put a grey or black plastic film canister cap over it if you have one around - they fit nicely. The one time this isn’t necessary is M mode since you’re setting both aperture and shutter speed manually

Automatic shooting (for group pictures)

Hi - You can download the manual from the link underlined in blue below:

PowerShot A710

The feature you need is the "self timer" on page 14:

72f5a82.jpg

When you press the shutter you will have up to 30 seconds to get yourself in the picture before the camera automatically takes the picture. For best results put the camera on a tripod.

Please take a moment to rate this solution & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!

Using automatic timer to take group photo

Press the bottom part of the square with the "OK" button in the middle. It has a picture of a clock. "Off" will be highlighted, so scroll down to the picture of the clock, and it will show the message "Selftimer On: A photo is taken automatically 12 sec. after shutter button is pressed." Press the OK button to activate this mode. Now it's just like taking a regular picture, just press the button and run over to the group and in 12 seconds it will take the picture.
