My van is over heating and was told my water pump needed replacing. I've checked the thermostat, oil, fluids, etc. How do I change the water pump myself? Is it a good idea to do it yourself or is this something I need a mechanic to work on???

The kia sedona water pump is an internal pump and needs to be replaced with timing belt service. if it is leaking, then you need to change the timing belt as well. probably not something you want to do in the back yard and will run you between 400 and 600 depending on your location and shop.

its pretty simple. take the inside inspection plate off, dont break tabs, unplug the electric connector, take out the 3 screws and mirror comes off. replace in reverse order. Its easier if you roll down window.

Is the pump leaking? If not why did they say it needed to be replaced?? Who was this, a shop or the dealer?
It was a shop. They did a compression test and he said it needed to be replaced Said I might as well get the timing belt replaced too since we are almost at 100,000 miles. Yes the water is leaking but not a ton.
