How to Handle a bleneder That Overheats, is it normal?

Same Problem

May 02, 2009

-   I have the same problem with burning odor on my Total Blendtec. No smoking and it still works fine. It is just that every time I turn it on for smoothies, it smells. Is this normal? -   Peace Quiet

-   Was making a fruit smoothie with oatmeal, milk and fruit and it just stopped. Thankfully it stopped just seconds before I turned it off so food was not wasted. But I smelled burning smell. I will let sit while at work and have my husband try again when he gets home.-   Guest

-   We use it on almost a daily basis. Works well except one day making a smoothie we smelled the burning rubber. It looks like the yoke/spindle and the washers melted. Smoking like crazy. Doesn't warranty cover this? I doubt its even a year old. -   JenTheChef

-   I love this work horse but I also had a problem with over heating. The motor is great but the plastic yoke that holds the blade in place(located on the bottom of the container) melted one day when I was grinding soft roasted tomatoes. I have contacted the company and I am hoping that they will give me some guidance/support on this matter. -   laurielrh

1. As soon as you smell an acrid, burning odor, turn off the blender and let it cool for 10 to 20 minutes before turning it on again.
2. If the blender continues to overheat, split the food into smaller batches. Mix them separately.
3. Run the blender for shorter periods and let the blender cool between each one.
4. If the blender no longer starts, you may have blown a fuse. Call the manufacturer to ask for parts and directions or for the location of the nearest service center.

I have the Hamilton Beach model 50159 10 speed blender, and it overeheated because the plastic bearing in the blade assembly failed, causing the motor to be overloaded.

Only mixing some soft vegetables that had been pre-cooked and liquid. Nothing hard. Got the smell immediatly. Rarely use the blender and it's almost brand new. Got the Waring Pro.
Hmmm......I hope this doesn't happen again.
