The chimney pipe most be the same sides all the way out , it can not begin big and then small as it goes out. that's the problem with, your wood burning stove. it can be small and then big but not the other way around.

When the oven is turned on there is a strong smell of gas and after awhile there is a loud thump and then it slowly begins to heat. It's very scary. What's wrong

I do not know, all I can say is DO NOT TURN YOUR STOVE ON ANYMORE until you have someone that works on stoves look it over, it may explode or catch on fire and burn your house to the ground.

There is black soot all thru my oven and surrounding cupboards in my kitchen.I do not use the self cleaning feature,is this normal for this type of stove?

This is NOT good. Soot comes from something burning, and that's definitely not good. Do you smell smoke or something burning? Is the stove electric or gas? I would have someone pull the stove away from the wall and check to see what is burning. It could be wires, but something is very wrong. Please don't use the stove until you have it checked out, you could start a fire. Really, please have this checked out ASAP!

Strong fumes from new frigidaire gas oven.what should i look for

If it smells like gas Shut the gas off outside call installer, or
gas company. If it doesn't smell like gas, most likely it's the "new smell" caused by the heat. If you have a kitchen vent fan turn it on. If it persists Call the installer or dealer. No action by them? call the mfg customer service number in your owner's manual. It's possible something was left in the oven burner area that shouldn't be there.

My gas stove seems to have what i would call a after burn

If it is just short final flare, it is probably just the gas still in the supply pipe to the burner. That last bit of gas will burn off rapidly right after the valve is turned off.

How do I use a Jotel 1 stove

Google: Jotel 1 stove
This comes up with tons of answers including the instalation and user manual. If you are burning wood be sure it is dry and also pine can cause pitch build up in the flue so keep it clean or it will eventually catch fire and burn itself clean along with the building it is in.

Occasional gas smell

If you have a burner lit and gas build up, strong smell etc., my advice would be to stop using the oven immediately! You no way gas should come out, build up, to the point you smell it, Especially while a burner is lit. Dangerous condition.

Propane was turned off for unrelated problem propane turned back on stove will not lite

If your stove has a standing pilot, it will need to be re-lit.

If this does not help, state the model of your stove.

Water and debris in flue liner of Jotul Stove

Hi,
You should have a swept T connector at the base, with the sweep going from the stove upwards, but the other end of the T going into a removable cap - or very short length of pipe. If you only have a standard bend - replace it with the T.

This is actually normal for wood burners. In an unlined chimney, the lighter "tar" fractions from the wood would soak into the brickwork, and show through the wall in a few years. In a lined system - they have to go somewhere, and usually condense inside the flue - running back down to the base.
The "chinese hat" style cap is actually very good for everything except sideways hail.

Sorry - but it's the nature of the fuel. It is possible to use a clay based absorbent at the base - Cat litter is actually fine.

Smelling gas at when stove is in prelight then going away

Welcome tkrogers,

You said, smelling gas at when stove is in Pre-light then going away.

In some stoves this is normal as long as it is a slight smell and it goes away when the stove or oven ignites.
You know gas really has no smell, but this smell is added for our safety!!
What is the Make, year ,and Model number of your range?

The gas must start somewhere until the flame ignites it.
So we smell a slight smell of gas until it burns.

Thanks,
Huuum

Gas meter was changed upon relighting, top burners pilots are on but oven not

under each (the) oven behind a panel, is a red button it may be a different color from time. this has to be pushed and held while the pilot light under the oven floor is lit with a match. it has to be held to allow enough heat to activate the thermocouple, which will keep the pilot on. if this does not work there may be an additional problem
