Question about Polar CS200 Cycle Computer/Heart Rate Monitor

3 Answers

Polar CS 200 chest strap appears to be sending signal to the HRM sporadically, and therefore heart rate displays zero. I changed the battery, but this did not help.

Same problem. It either reads zero, or crazy readings like 220, or it flashes intermittently when you press start, and when u press stop, the flashing stops.... also changed batteries with no difference.

For two years I had a problem where the monitor was presenting me with ridiculously high values, like 122% max heart rate. This typically happened on downhills or whenever I exceeded 25MPH (OK only downhills). One day when wearing a windproof vest, I noticed that it didn't happen. I then placed SaranWrap over the front of the chest strap to completely block the wind and it also worked. Then I discovered (while reading the Polar manual about HRM maintenance) that the problem might be that I rarely washed the unit. (Don't understand how this manifests itself as it does, but...) After I washed it as directed, the problem went away, so now I wash after most rides. Fast forward 4 months and the problem has returned, but usually only in the first part of the ride and I don't have to be going as fast. I dabbed on some water which didn't help and the next time added a few grains of salt to a few dabs of H2O. Problem still there. Now I'm trying the SaranWrap method to see if this will help, but as of yet, I can say that wrapping up only the central plastic part of the chest strap doesn't help. More experiments on the way.

Mine does this as well but only seemed to happen on downhills. I have found that as long as you keep the chest strap moist it will read correctly. So before you start just moisten the ******** the sensors and hope you sweat enough to keep it moist in wind etc.

Just read that you need to wash the belt in a washing machine and/or check the snaps for corrosion. My 200sd is doing the same thing so will try this when I get home tonight.

Changed the battery and now it won't pick up the heart rate monitor. I know the monitor works because it is picked up by all the equipment in the gym.

If Heart Rate is being displayed on the equipment in the gym, but not your watch, then your chest strap is transmitting fine, but the watch is not recieving the signal.

It is not uncommon that when a battery is changed outside of a polar authorized service center that something can happen to the internal electronics. I would suggest you send the watch into Polar and have them take a look. if you have had the watch less than 2 years they will most likely take it under warranty and correct the issue, at the very least they have equipment to test and diagnose both the watch and strap, although it sounds like your HR strap is fine since you are getting HR on the machines.

There is a step by step guide in my tips and tricks of things to try with your strap. If none of these work and you are getting a signal from another source then you need to get either a new strap, a new sender or both. If you send the T-31 wearlink into polar they can run a diagnostic and see which is bad and sell you just the piece you need or a whole new chest piece.

How do i reset and work my polar t31? I have lost instructions and it is 2 years since I last used it

There is no reset on the T-31 chest straps and transmitters. If the battery is functioning then you simply put it around your chest (make sure the contacts are wet) and turn on the watch. A heart rate signal should appear automatically.

If this doesn't work, I have solutions in my tips and tricks page as well as Manuals for Polar products. The T-31 battery may also be dead, in which case you will need to replace.

The picture you have showing is for a S-Series Speed sensor for the Bike. If this is something you are having a problem with feel free to send me a note related to the problem.

2 Seperate issues:

Heart Rate - The CS200cad uses a coded transmission for the HR, When you have a HR that spikes that high, it is because for some reason the signal has not coded correctly. Here are a number of ways to help with that issue.
1. Make sure you have good contact between your chest strap and your skin.
2. Make sure the Heart rate sensors on the strap are wet. Or use a conductive cream to improve contact.
3. Make sure the strap is on correctly. Up high on the chest just under breasts, Polar symbol centered on chest and upright. Strap tight enough to keep from slipping
4. If the strap is older, make sure it is clean. Salt can build up in the strap.
5. If the strap is over 2 years old consider replacing.
6. Check Battery

For the Speed/ Distance - Same sensor (front) make sure that the magnet on the wheel is within 1-2mm of the Fork sensor. The magnet should align in the middle of the sensor, with the sensor just slightly angled into the magnet. When the magnet and sensor have a good signal a small red light will flash and you may hear a click when the wheel is rotated. If none of this works you have a low battery and will need to replace that front sensor.

How do I enable my EFX 544 to give my heart rate while wearing my polar heart rate chest strap?

If the EFX 544 has polar Heart Rate attach to the upper electronics your chest strap should be transmitting and the unit should be receiving. If your chest strap is more than 3 yrs old usually the battery will die and needs to be replaced or you have a defective receiver and will have to be replaced

Watch won't read heart rate

It could be the battery on the strap is not good. However just to be sure make sure you are wetting the strap and it is around chest, front should sit right about on the bottom of pectoral or chest, if you are female make sure it is under your sports bra the bra band will be over it. I would start warming up then hit the start button it should work.

Had the same problem. Just figured it out. The center Polar Logo on the strap needs to touch your chest in a firm way. Bend it back slightly so it fits snug on the middle of your chest.

HRM troubleshoot

A HRM is a training tool that helps you do cardiovascular (CV) training correctly, neither too hard, nor too easy. It’s almost like having a personal coach on your wrist! Every HRM comes in two parts: 1. An elasticated chest strap which contains a pair of sensors that detect and transmit your heart rate. 2. A wrist worn receiver that receives the signal from the chest strap and displays your heart rate. The receiver may also have additional functions and display other information depending upon the HRM model chosen. Both the chest strap and receiver are battery operated.
