I have a Radio Shack Pro 97 Scanner that I received as a present 1-1/2 years ago. It was working just fine and then suddenly there was no squelch or volume. The keys make noise when pushed, but there is no sound for the squelch or volume. The scanner scans the frequencies but does not stop and play. I went on line and found that other people were having the same problems. I went back to the store that the unit was purchased from and received no help what so ever, they said it’ s off warranty and I was out of luck, nice way to do business??. I think that something that cost as much as this should not be junk after a short period of time. I hope you can help me with this problem I do like radio shack, but I can’t afford to buy items that don’t stand up.

Turn it on, and when "Welcome" appears, press zero, then press one. It will display a message indicating it is initializing to the factory state.

The Jenn Air Gas Range that I have is making a high pitched whistling sound when its turned on. It may do this right when it turned on or sometimes it can take a minute or two. This sound will go on

There is a gas regulator on the unit. This might be defective.
Call an appliance repair guy to diagnose. Gas is very dangerous and can explode.

Whistle noise

A whistling noise can be generated by an alternator at high RPM's and indicates a slip ring brush problem or a diode failing . It resembles a frequency whistle.. IT may also be from a leaking gasket and a partially blocked exhaust system from a failed cat converter and at speed and power, the exhaust gas is forced out the hole

My engine is idling very high

High idle speed is an indication of a vacuum leak. Listen for a small whistle. Find the whistle sound, you will find the leak. Now repair the bad hose, or broken plastic tube with a small chunk of hose that will fit over the tube. If it is more major, it could be an intake manifold gasket. The engine uses an idle air motor to control engine RPM. After fixing the vacuum leak, the engine may not idle at all, until you drive the car for about 5 minutes above 40 MPH. The idle air motor resets itself to 0.

I put a sub in my 2002 Altima but when I turn it up the bass cracks on the door speakers??? What do I do to get all the bass on the sub

Hi Ethan,

What you're looking for is called a "crossover". A crossover is an electronic filter for an audio or speaker circuit. In an audio circuit, a crossover is used to prevent or pass certain frequencies or a range of frequencies from passing through it. Since your sub will reproduce the bass or low frequencies, you don't want other speakers to reproduce them. A band pass filter on your door speakers will do this for you. A band pass filter passes only a range or "band" of frequencies and blocks those that are above and below the range or band of frequencies selected. Installing a band pass filter will prevent the very high & very low frequencies from getting to the door /dash speakers. Likewise, you should consider connecting a low pass filter to your subs, too. The low pass filters work a little differently from of the way band pass filters work - they only allow low frequencies to get to the sub - blocking all the other higher frequencies (your other speakers are better suited to reproduce those). Lastly, you would install a high pass filters on tweeters. Tweeters are designed to reproduce only the high frequencies - sending mid and low frequencies to them is wasting power and can cause damage to them.

You purchase the filters for specific crossover points (the block / unblocked point) as determined by the individual speakers. If a sub has a frequency response of 20Hz - 100Hz, a low pass filter of 100Hz would be ideal. Remaining filters would need to begin at 100Hz - assuming the mid-range speakers have a frequency response beginning at 100Hz. A band pass filter of 100Hz - 3KHz would fit the bill nicely if the mid-range speakers go up to 3Khz Match the high end of the band pass to the high end of the frequency response of the mid-range speakers. Next, a high pass filter at 3KHz would allow only the high frequencies to your tweeters. Basically, you want to have the entire audible range 20Hz - 20KHz covered by the speakers and have the crossover points that match the frequency response ranges of the speakers.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Infocus projector makes a whistling sound then shuts off

The whistling is nothing but noise. You need to open the projector to confirm the source of noise. It can either be mechanical or electronic. Possibility of mechanical noise sources are colour wheel (a 4 colour wheel near the lamp), blower fans & exhaust fans. All these are rotating things. If any one of them is jammed, then so as to try to rotate at full speed creates noise. To reduce mechanical noise it is necessary to service them. Dust is one of the main reason. For electronic noise check SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply) & lamp ballast (electronic choke). The electronic noise is a high frequency noise generated by such devices. Are you using the projector in dusty envionment?

I get a high pitched whistle from my r94 rinnai. what causes this?

It's generally caused by either low gas pressure to the heater. Or what is called a "Cold Burner". If it is a :Cold Burner" ... Once the whistling starts, turn the heater off, wait 3 to 5 minutes and turn it back on and turn the flames to a middle setting. If there is no whistling, set your flame height/temperature where ever you like. The low gas pressure issue would need to checked by a qualified technician. At the same time, have them to check the air mixture control valve on the burner.

Hope this helps solve your problem. Please let me know.

Whistling when TV is switched on. LG LCD 32''

If the sound is coming from the back of the TV, then the issue is with the power supply and may get worse causing the TV not to power on.

If the sound is coming from the speakers, then the issue may be with the main board, an audio hookup to the TV, and or a bad ground loop with the TV and the connections to it.

Hi there ! Sure, it's possible to connect such speakers on a tv. Usually, you're gonna have an RCA (white + red) audio outputs on the back of the tv in the A/V connections. That's the one you want to use ! That connection may, or may not be variable, and usually has a configurable behavior through the TV's menu, in the audio submenu. You wanna look for 'Audio Out' or similar. The speakers probably have a 1/8 of an inch mini stereo connection, which is meant to be connected on a PC sound card. You only need a RCA to 1/8 Mini Stereo adapter, which can be found at a dollar store, radio shack, best buy or any electronics store you got close for 2-5$. Hope that helps ! cheebster.
