Question about RCA HD52W59 HDTV Projection Television

1 Answer

RCA ITC 222 Deflection board

I suppose I'm having the same problem as a lot of other people. The fl231 fuse is blown. The accompanying diode seems to be fine.

This may sound like a dumb question but I have to ask... I couldn't see where the wires on the flyback transformer were connected. So I figured I'll just cut the wires and then wire nut them and tape it up when I reinstall the board after replacing the fuse.

Is that going to be OK? I understand this transformer can really put out some high voltages.. and maybe that's why those wires are so well insulated.

Oh. That's not what I was hoping to hear. I already cut the wires. Maybe I should make up a story to tell my wife for why the TV isn't going to work now and just get another TV. It looks like this one is going to be trouble anyhow.

Convergency has gone out of sync, went to try to realign but the convergeny setting was not listed in the tools menu.

Thats usually caused by a blown FL231 Fuse and a blown DL231 diode that blow when the flyback transformer develops solder cracks around the pins. The repair is to first resolder the flyback then replace the FL231 fuse and DL231 diode. You can get the RCA / GE convergence option missing repair kit which has the parts and repair instructions from

Rca r52wh74 - no auto convergance

The model number of your TV probably falls under the ITC-222 chassis design. Do a search based on that criteria and it should point you in the right direction. If I remember right, you need to replace FL231 on the deflector board though. Good luck

RCA HD52W59 Coverage issue Responce

that definately sounds like the convergence ic's have failed, you can try to find a simular schematic here ( itc 222 )

also here is some other things to try

1 in the service manual that disconnecting BW001 & BW002 on the Converagence Amplifier board may remove the load on the Convergence Power Supply , so disconnect turn on power then turn off and unplug from wall , then plug those back in and then power up , ( if you already replaced fuse and resoldered flyback)
2 resolder the flyback pins
3 check fl231 again , replace if needed

let me know if that does it or if we need to check power at the fuse or another part of the cicuit , but definately resolder ( one of rca's biggest problems)

the problem is not to do with the deflection! it is still working if you are seeing a picture, it is the power supply for the convergence. it isn't working at this time. it is usually a smaller separate pcb
if this supply isn't working the picture looks wacked. rca's seldom have an issue with convergence and are made better than most you will notice the heat sinks for the convergence output that are discreet and will outlast many other brands that use chips.put a dvm on the output of the supply to confirm. if power is there then the seldom problematic outputs is to blame.

RCA R52WH74 (ITC222A Chassis)

no the board that has the FL231 on is the ITC222 deflection board. The other board is above the chassis in a seperate frame that runs across the set the convergence power supply is the board on the left above the board where the fL231 is. Yes the ITC222 and ITC222A are the same chassis. As for the service manual that site should have the service manual under the thomson category as the ITC 222 chassis is actually a thomson chassis made for RCA.
