No power in dell e173fpf

Hello i have a problem with my dell e173fpf. no power , no led . i found that D854 (dual diode ) was shorted . replaced it with another kind of dual diode . it was ok and the monitors goes on . but i wanted to try again if without soldering the dual diode the led goes on or no . so i found that without it the monitor doesn't go on . so i resold it on the board but now it doesn't go on .i don't understand what happed . did the fact of powering it without diode had destroy another component ?

Re: no power in dell e173fpf

I would expect the same (new) part failed. Try another dual diode otherwise you may be chasing the problem around the board.. Good Luck, Tim

In a dell e177fpf lcd monitor all the capasitors fuses diodes in power supply and inverter board are ok.but the back lights remains 2 seconds.

Hello...I recently opened up my Dell E173Fpf monitor because the screen went black, yet the power button was green. I thought it was a capacitor problem. But before doing anything I gave the board a thorough inspection, looking for anomalies. I observed a substance, (later identified as silicon) puddled around the power connections. I gently removed the semi rigid stuff and didn't touch the capacitors as I had originally planned. I partially reassembled the monitor for a test run and it worked again. (Being 9 years old, I don't know for how long...) Only thing I can think of is that a spill happened at the factory and over the years it gradually "melted" to puddle around the wires behind the power input. (Weird, but that seems to be what happened.)

No power to monitor

4 years is a good life for a monitor, so i agree you can stick to Dell since its already proven itself... :) - As you mentioned, this monitor is not currently being sold from Dell, I would suggest an upgrade to a 19" - or a 23" one ... if i were you, i would choose a 23", but for a higher pricing :) (Answered this earlier for someone else too i suppose!)

Initially, pls check D854 on the Power Supply/Logic board. It is a dual diode. If you would prefer board replacement rather than component level repair, this might be of help. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

This is of course in addition to checking the usual, power cord, fuse, outlet etc.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Dell E173FPf lcd- no picture, steady green light

E173FPf Mfg December 2004
This E173FPF has changed much inside from the November 2003 E172fpb which had the famous 4 identical transistors 5707 that would tend to fail in pairs. If your newer E173FPF displays a green power light and fails to display a picture try replacing the 220uf25v capacitors at C6 and C26. Test them with a volt ohm meter and they will test Ok, replace them anyway. Radio Shack did not have the 25v so I used the 35v, display works fine now. There is an E173FPF repair kit with directions available on Ebay if you don't have a parts store in your area and would prefer delivery.

i'm not an expert at anything...x'cept maybe dumpster diving. God Bless

Won't turn on

Could be a power supply issue. Maybe it's not getting enough voltage from the power supply unit. Could also be some bad solder points on the circuit board, or maybe a burnt capaciter.
