My ge a-735 has a lens error message when in picture taking mode. The lens comes out all the way. After the lens error mode is set a red light on the upper left corner starts to flash and then it turn solid red. If I turn the camera off the lens stays all the way out. If I then select the picture viewing mode and turn it back on, the lens goes back in. The lens can go all the way in or out but it's like it doesn't know where it's at. Is there some kind of lens sensor or something that maybe isn't functional? Norm

Mine does the same thing and it's only 2 months old.I have tried pulling on the lens, banging it, changed the batteries, holding the OK button whille turning it on, nothing sems to help. I am calling GE tomorrow to see what they say, believe me, this camera is a piece of scrap.

I have the exact same problem. I turn on my camera and then it tells me "Lens Error" and then shuts off. If anyone knows a solution please let me know. I just bought the camera on Valentine's Day.

My daughter had the same problem with her pink A735. I tried removing the batteries, resetting the default settings and every combination of buttons. Finally I grabbed the lens as it was opening and forced it out all the way. There was about 1/8" that it was short of being fully extended. This fixed the camera for at least a while, but it sounds like there is a problem with the mechanism as it clicks every time the lens deploys and retracts now. I suspect this is a short term fix, but if you are planning on tossing the camera out it is worth a try. This camera is only about a month old.

My camera is displaying on the lens WRITE PROTECT on my ge 7.0 megapixel A735

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts protects the card from writing, the position nearest the contacts enables writing. If the switch is already toward the contacts, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try a different card.

I was getting the Lens Error message on my A730, even though my lens seemed to be working fine. I'd had the camera in my pocket, and apparently it tried to open but jammed. But it seemed to be OK except for the cursed Lens Error message when I'd power it on. The way I found to fix it is press and hold the "func/OK" button on the back, then turn the camera on. Now it's working again. Note that this may not work for you if your lens is actually screwed up. Mine wasn't.
