CAMERA STARTS UP AND SHUTS DOWN IMMEDIATELY

Hi,
I'd appreciate your assistance with my camera problem. Initially I thought that the batteries were depleted. I changed the batteries but the problem persists.

I switch the camera on and it activates as normal. However after a series of short of beeps (within 2 seconds of start up) the camera shuts down.

thank you very much

regards

The beeps are usually a message that tells the repair man whats wrong, just like a computer. If you can contact customer support, see if they can tell you what the beep code means and you can go from there.

usually Beeps partain to memory on a computer, not that there the same but if it has a memory card, try removing it and then powering it on. If you can plug it into outlet power, try that as well. The manual that came with it amy have the beep error codes listed as well.

Good luck

Hi
Now something that will actually help you.
1) the reason this is most likely happening is that the lens is blocked.
If the lens does not extend then it is possible that it has become jammed. Somtimes this can cause the camera to sense an error and shut itself down immediately after powering on. There are other explanations for the behavior, but if the lens does not move this is the most likely cause. If the lens does extend but then the camera shuts right back off it is possible that an inner component such as the focusing element is not functioning properly.

When a camera comes on and then turns right back off it is generally due to some failure in its self-check at power on. Most of these failures come from the lens due to the fact that it contains most of the moving parts.

Check with your manufacturer for warranty support or recalls. Failing that you can find an online repair provider who can fix your camera.
how i fixed this was (I'm not kidding) I hit mine against a card board box. and that dislodged the lens, now it works. you can also just try taking it apart and cleaning it. that gave me an electric shock so be careful.

hope I helped you.

PS "you might need an idiot to do this for you. no kidding."

Clean the contacts of the battery holder .
Also try to switch on your camera through AC power chord and check whether it is working properly .
If it is not working properly then you need to take your camera to service center to check the internal board for this malfunctioning .

Hey, what is the brand and model of your camera, a firmware update might fix the problem, if not, it requires service.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls try to clean the battery contacts. At certain instances it may be necessary to scrape them to remove corrosion. Additionally, they may be required to be bended at a bit (or stretched) so as to ensure that these contacts exert more pressure to the batteries.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

    Hi again,

Appreciate the update on the developments or to be more exact the lack of it.

Based on your 2nd post, the best next move would be to seek the services of an authorized service center as all other tries would be pure guesswork, workarounds or temporary remedies especially if the procedures as laid out in the service manual are not followed.

The temporary workaround may include (but not be limited to):

    • reset should it be available through a small button, menu feature or removing the battery and the memory battery for an extended period of time;

    • jarring the camera back into action by thumping its base/bottom against the palm of one's hand or on the pages of an open book;

    • opening the camera to check for any loose/detached flat cables, connectors or anything out of the ordinary.
    Cheers.

I suspect this to be a camera problem, I also notice the camera dos not recognize all rechargeable batteries some of them do not even get acknowledge.
If anyone gets a solution help us both....

Camera shuts down when 'zoom lens' is used.

Hi there please follow the steps and let me know the result.

1. Ensure batteries are fully charged & clean the battery connector point in side the battery compartment.

2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.

3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck

4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.

5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine .
Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a
back up all photos in your computer then format. If no luck then reset or restore the camera setting by pressing Menu key for 2 sec ..
in not done the press both Menu & self time key for 2 - 4 sec.

Camera shows batteries need replacing after putting in fresh ones

Try cleaning the battery contacts inside the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. If the sticky coke got inside the camera, it will only get worse as the phosphoric acid does more damage.

Same thing happened to me when I used alkaline batteries. Have you tried fully charged NiMH? If not you may have a "leak". Your next option is the service center.

I turn camera on and it shuts off immediately

I had the exact same problem, it would shut off after trying to turn it on. The door to the memory card has very small tabs on it that push in some kind of sensor inside the camera when you shut the lid. It starts up when I push in the sensor.

I had the same problem. After trying several different new batteries I bought high grade Lithium batteries. This worked! Before getting a new camera try spending $15 on quality batteries. It worked for me.
