Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, reset your RCA DRC257N unit, that is unplug from the mains for an extended period. Should that be not corrective, then it would require a bit of electronic work on the Power Supply Board. Often the filter capacitor (C411, 1000uF 16V) would require replacement. A faulty capacitor allows a dirty DC to be supplied to the logic/controller circuitry which prevents the firmware in initializing the unit fully.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Sled motor of optical lens is got stuck so get hello and nothing more.
Unplug unit from ac outlet, take out its top cover and hold optical block in fingers from its sides (not to touch lens itself) and move it to outward and inward with little force. Then plug it, power up, eject, place disc and check playback

Turn off your DVD player. You do not want to risk electrical shock while working with it.---------------------Locate your DVD player’s manual Eject button. It is usually a small hole located underneath the DVD drawer.---------------Insert a stiff wire—such as a paperclip or safety pin—into the hole. Push gently and the drawer should open partway. Gently pull the drawer the rest of the way open.-----Remove the DVD and see if there is a problem with it. Most DVD player drawers get stuck when a DVD is warped or the label is starting to peel. If the DVD is warped, discard it. If the label is peeling, remove the label.---------Turn your DVD player back on. If it gets stuck again on a different DVD, then the problem may be with your DVD player rather than with your DVDs. Things You’ll Need:

How to Open a DVD Door Without Turning on the Device--------You went to bed last night with that DVD you rented still resting in the player. Now you're ready to return the disk, but the machine won't power up, and you can't get the door to slide open. You can retrieve the DVD without breaking the machine----------
Find an object with a small point. A straightened paper clip is perfect for the task. Pins or needles are also an option.--------Find the small hole near the face of your DVD drive or the door. Many DVD players have this tiny hole on the door next to the eject button. This is the manual or emergency release point.--------Insert the point of your implement into the hole. Apply slight pressure to release the mechanism holding the door closed. Applying too much pressure could damage the machine, so start with a little and slowly add more until the unit opens the door. Retrieve your DVD.

Hi, Do you mean there is no power to the unit ? If so, check if the fuse in the unit went off.
Does it have any disk already loaded into it? If the power is on and the deck is not opening, the disk might have got stuck into it. You can open the unit and release it.
:)

Doesn't load the disk

Someone needs to open it to SEE what is happening--if the unit holds more than one disc (model seems to indicate that) you likely have a mechanism problem with something jammed or even broken--mechanism could also be out of alignment which is a task for a pro.

Look and see what is happening is first thing needed here.

  4. If the disc tray still does not open and a disc is stuck inside, follow the steps below to force the disc tray to eject:
    1. Turn off the BD player.
    2. Turn the BD player back on.
    3. Immediately after POWER ON is displayed, press the STOP button on the front of the player. IMPORTANT: Only use the STOP button on the front of the BD player. The remote control cannot be used for this operation.
      NOTES:
      • The disc tray should eject and the BD player will turn off. If it does not eject, repeat steps A-C.
      • It may be necessary to press the STOP button in step C two or three times.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required

LOCKED DVR

I just bought the CH-DVR 1600 @ Target. This is just a temporary workaround to enable playing of region 2 DVD disks (don't have other regions but believe it will work also), until the real regional unlock is available.

1. Insert the region 2 DVD disk and close the tray.
2. Wait for the "Wrong Region" popup to appear in the upper-right corner of your TV screen.
3. The display on your DRV reads "STOP" at this point and the "Wrong Region" popup has disappeared.
4. Press the number "1" button on your DVR remote and a small input popup will appear in the upper-left corner of your screen.
5. Do not press anything else and the DVR will accept this entry as a chapter # and proceed to this chapter to start playing the movie.

NOTE1: The DVR runs in a somewhat restricted node, e.g. the DVR display still reads "STOP" and some remote functions do not work, such as "Menu". The input numbers correspond to the chapters on the DVD disk, so you can experiment and get to the menu once you hit one of the extra feature chapters with a "back to the menu" link on it.

NOTE2: I’m anxiously awaiting the real unlock sequence, as I tried most of the old ones posted here, none seemed to work.

also try this
-Switch player ON with no disc in the tray. Close tray and press MENU, 1, and 9 on the remote control. A menu should appear with the Region Option. Highlight the Region entry and press ENTER on the remote. Type in the Region you want. (Put 0 for code free) Press ENTER again to confirm choice. Press OPEN/CLOSE TRAY button and put in movie.

Unknown disk type

Press 'Disc Menu' and wait for 'no disc' to appear on the screen. Eject the tray by pressing the 'open / close' button on front of the recorder. Enter the following numbers very slowly on the remote control ' 0086000 ' Press ' OK ' button on your remote control. Close the tray by pressing ' open / close ' button on the front of the recorder. You can check this has worked by pressing ' 0009 OK ' on your remote after the tray has closed. A display will pop up on screen showing the Region as 0. This means you should be able to play discs from all Regions. If this doesn't work the first time! try again! Hope this helps!!

Eject tray belt broke

Opening the DVD player tray is not as hard as you would think.

1. Remove three black screws holding the outer cover on the unit (located on rear of unit)

2. Carefully remove front panel trim by gently prying six clips (3 on top, 3 on bottom) away from unit and pulling panel away from unit.

3. Locate opening at the front of the DVD player that houses a larger white gear.

4. Using a finger, gently move gear until DVD tray begins to move outward.

5. Continue until DVD is fully ejected.

6. Try plugging the unit back into AC outlet and attempt to Open/Close the tray using the provided button on the Front Panel Circuit Board.

7. Reverse steps above to put unit back together.

Disk Tray Will Not Open

Hmmmm, I see! Sometimes on my xbox the tray does not open. Maybe if you hit the top of your DVD Player a few times the disc tray may open. You must first click the button to open it then hit it on the top. If that doesn't work then sorry. From Jake @ www.Drama-King-Jake-2.piczo.com!

Locked dvd tray.

To unlock, manually press and HOLD the open/close button & the stop button simultaneously, and HOLD them both down until the lock picture disappears.   The DVD will eject when you press the open/close button.

To lock the DVD inside the machine, repeat the same step, and it will lock it inside.
