If you have an old 3 wire set up, the middle wire is the neutral, the outside terminals are the two hot, which can be reversed.
If you have the four wire cord, the black and red wires are the hot wires (go to either of the outside terminals, one to each, of course) the white is the neutral, which goes to the center terminal, and the green is the ground which attaches to the dryer frame. On a four wire set up, the wire or metal strap which normally connects the center terminal on the dryer to the dryer frame should be removed.

Need instructions on wiring for a 4-wire pigtail on a GE Dryer Just moved, the new place has the new 4 prong outlet so I replaced my pigtail with the new 4-wire one. Need wiring instruntions for the colors...

put the white in the middle, red on one side black on the other doesn't matter what side or just copy the old cord, now you need to ground it with the green wire, take off a screw on the back of the dryer near the other three and attach the green ground wire to it and screw it back in,the green wire just has to touch the metal frame to ground it

Need to change cord to three prong from four...they are not color coded, does is matter how you hook them up

The wires on a flat 3 prong pigtail go on just as they are. The center wire goes on the center post. The outer wires go on the outer posts. The wires do NOT crossover at all and it doesn't matter with the outer wires. Just as long as the center wire is on the center post. You *must* put a ground strap from the center post to the case. It should have been removed or disconnected when the 4 wire pigtail installed. If you have a round 3 wire pigtail, the White wire goes to the center post. Red or black to either outer post.

It came with no instructions and i need the wrirng diagram for the new pigtail that needs to be tied into the wiring...

Usually Wires are color coded, and if you have multiples of the same color you will most likely need the old pigtail to identify which wire goes where in the pigtail. If you don't have the wiring diagram handy that's the best way to do things. Haynes and Chilton manuals have those with wire color information if you don't have the original pigtail to use as a reference. Without more information on what area you're working on, I can't be of any more help than that as some sensors have multiple voltages that go to and leave them from the computer it's connected to.

Used maytag electric dryer installation question

First off, you should be wiring your power cord directly to the terminal block inside the dryer. If someone just cut off the cord that is terminated inside the dryer, and you are attempting to splice the new cord onto the old one.. you are making a mistake.. take the new cord and bond it directly to the terminal block inside the dryer. If you have a new 4-wire power cord, you are probably dealing with a red/black/white and green wire. ( assuming it is a four prong plug).. The black and red wires are the power lines themselves and should mate with the red and black wires inside the dryer. The green ( is frame ground) and is normally bonded to a stud near the terminal block or the dryer frame. The white is the neutral line and is normally tied to the terminal in the middle and between the red and black tie points.. In line splices should not be done on this appliance.. Hope this helps..

I just purchased a new home and the pigtail of my Amana dryer is different than the electrical outlet and the dryer does not have a schematic to install a new 4 wire pigtail. Is there an adapter to change...

There are no adapters. But a dryer will accept a 3 prong or 4 prong cord. The extra green wire just needs to be connected to any screw on the dryer casing. Some newer dryers have a screw there for it..or u can just use the closest screw avalable......usually the screw for the cover works good.

Dryer electric cord

The national electrical code requires the installation of a four wire system for ALL 240 volt equipment. He will be putting in a four wire dryer receptacle. The pigtail you'll need will be a standard four wire pigtail. The way it is connected is: the red and black go to the two outermost terminals, the white goes to the center terminal and the green goes to a good chassis ground point. If there is a jumper strap from the center terminal to the chassis ground point it must be removed.

Replacing a pigtail

You hook the Red and Black wires to the gold colored screws on the dryer, and the white wire goes to the siolver colored screw. The Green wire goes to the Body.
