Annot boot with printer connected via USB ASUS P5B

I just successfully installed a new Lexmark X9575 printer via a USB port on my ASUS P5B Premium board. Install went AOK. But when I later tried to re-boot, the system hung on the very first screen (ASUS logo). If I uinplug the USB cable the system boots successfully. ????

While booting press whatever key or combination required to enter BIOS setup and find the boot section. Disable USB from the boot devices list.

I have a Dell Dim 2400 and no connection with HP Deskjet 3070A.

Charles, has this combination worked previously, have you been able to print from your Dell Dimension 2400 to your HP Deskjet 3070A successfully?

If the answer to the above is Yes, then if you believe that the printer is still working correctly and you can test this with a different computer able to print to it, you should consider uninstalling and re-installing the HP software and device drivers for this printer.

If you have not printed to this printer successfully previously, have you tested the printer with a different computer and proven it is still working fine?

If the printer works fine to a different computer then providing you are using the same USB cable to connect to your Dell 2400, the problem needs to be narrowed down further.

Check that you can plus other USB devices into the port on the Dell used for the HP printer - if these work, then your USB port is good - if not, try another port if you have one.

If your USB hardware is good, then again you are left with the need to uninstall and re-install the HP software and device drivers - it may be worth trying to download the latest version of such software if available. HP tend to update their All-in-One software on a regular basis.

Don't know where i plug in my printer

I think you are new with the PC or Printers, if not, I am sorry to underestimate you, not actually, Well, I was just trying make you concentrate, This printer is to be connected to the PC via USB port using USB cable, here's the pic representation : usb-printer.gif The Flat terminal is to be connected to the PC and the Smaller terminal is to be connected to the Printer. Don't worry, It fits with the corresponding ports. printer-usb-port.jpg USB port on the printer looks similar with the above shown image. 67411-usb.jpg You have to connect in a similar way as shown above to the PC.. I have just bought a new 3 in 1, and wish to install it, but at present i have a lexmark printer installed on my computer. How do i delete the lexmark to install the hp, or can i have 2 printers installed...

You can have as many printers as you want installed on a single pc. Some printers use a parallel port which uses a 25 pin on the back of your pc and others use USB which most computers have 2-4 of. If it's a usb connection just plug it in and your computer should detect it and ask you if you want to install it. When you go to print you'll have the option of using either printer.

A couple of questions: Are you using an accout that has install rights? (ie. Administrator level account ) Are you seeing the UAC (user account control) prompts if you are are you clicking allow this software to run? Can you install other software? If these are true then

at this point try removing all printer software, then restart computer. Now turn on printer connect usb cable to printer then plug into a usb port on the computer, Do you get a "Found New Hardware" popup window? If so remove the cable from the computer and restart the computer. Now insert the cd that came with printer and follow the instructions for the software installation. If you don't see a "Found New Hardware"prompt then try a new usb cable, or try leaving the printer connected and turning the printer off for about a minute then back on. If this doesn't help try leaving it connected and re booting your machine also try different usb ports on your machine. If none of this helps you may have account permission issues or just bad hardware.
I would really need more info about your machine configuration if these tips don't help

Almost certainly you need to update your driver although I thought Vista already had this driver. Anyway try downloading Vista Printer driver from link and reinstalling your printer.

USB devices not seen

go through control panel/system/device manager, and see if the USB ports(should be at bottom) are good or not.

if not, remove them all

use scan for new hardware at top

see how that works.
