Yes it seems like you have a faulty LOPTX Transformer.. But first make sure where the sparks come from PLease note this is dangerous high voltage, a lott of times the HT wire is burnt trough and can be sealed by thick insulation tape ...thank you

Tv went off and won't come back on.

the arcing sound is some kind of high voltage leak, which will shut down the tv. pull the speaker grill off and the access board, look at the 3 picture tubes, turn the set on you will see where the leak is, it's usually the high voltage splitter, which has a high voltage wire going into it and 3 high voltage wires coming out going to the picture tubes, if it arcs from the splitter you need to change it, if it arcs from one of the picture tube wires you need to pull the tube out and fix the high voltage leak, and possibly a cooling fluid leak caused it, not an easy reapir, you probably need a repairman.

Sparking

My guess is the Horizontal Output transistor is shorted and you have a bad Flyback ( HV transformer)
This is very common on that set.

Power cuts off at sart up

I have the same problem with my mistubishi projection tv model ws48311 I believe the problem I had before and it was a couple of transistors and a high voltage power supply that fixed it. I believe the problem was caused by faulty power from a power strip or outlet not making a good connection and sparking. I had Overland Tv in OP Ks look at the Television, but heard bad reviews from a coworker and now do not trust them hsnitkoff@yahoo.com

Tv problem

It sounds like you have High Voltage arc, coming from back of set. Was there ever Horzontal lines in picture when this happen. Or did your picture ever get dark and miss some color? If any of this happen then it could be coming from High Voltage Transformer, and anodes leads coming from trans.I would say clean spark gap anode leads and make sure all are seated properly(tighten). It would help if you could have the back open and notice when the set does this to see if you see sparks and were from. Hope this helps. Remember be carefull around any Voltage.
