I just discovered that my humidifier doesn't work and has never worked. When I opened it to change the element I found it was dry and in pristine condition. It has never been wet. Also nothing happens when I turn the dial to "test". I assume the wiring was done wrong when the unit was installed, but it is long out of warranty, so I need to find out how to check the wiring. Does anyone know of a place I can get wiring instructions and a diagram online?

Odd for both to be out. Check the water supply sometimes corrosion or scale will block the saddle piercing valve. Run it all the way into the pipe. Usually need to spin the little valve handle clockwise. Then back it all the way back to full open and reset humidifier power and furnace power. After that may want to crack open water supply connection right before the solenoid at each humidifier to make sure water is getting to them.
Hello, check to see if you have 24 volts to the solenoid valve when the blower motor is on, if you do the solenoid valve is bad if not chevk to see where the voltage stops. Also, since tnis is a fan powered humidifier, the relay that energizes the fan could be bad aswell.
Hello, You can tell if the humidifier is working if you see water flowing into the drain line. Also , when the furnace turns on you should here a click at the solenoid valve on the humidifier, this means that the solenoid is open and letting water into the humidifier.
It appears your Aprilaire model 700 is wired to only operate when your HVAC fan is operated by your thermostat. Your HVAC installer can wire the humidifier control to operate the humidifier during a heat call, fan call or to turn on the fan when there is a need for humidification. Please contact your HVAC installer to have them change the wiring.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be of service Sincerely,
if humidifier was wired into thermostat circuit for power instead of seperate transformer , this can happen. you need to see if you voltage going to the solenoid valve. if you do , and it isn't opening, the valve is bad . this is assuming that it is using a # 50 relay to come on only when the fan runs . . make sure the water valve is open
