Same problem here. Mine is not very old. How often does this happen? I'm thinking about returning mine to the store?

  • Anonymous Mar 14, 2009

Alarm light comes on and heater will not work now. The heater is less than 6 months old.

  • Nananeu Apr 21, 2009

Same problem-heater was a Christmas 2008 gift - used regularly - now oscillates but will not heat.

I have only had mine for 3 weeks when it did the same thing, I looked up and called Optimus Enterprizes @ 714 956-1300 they told me they warrenty it for 3 years. Send it back and they will repair or replace it. I am near them so I took it to their office @ 2201 E. Winston Rd. Anaheim, Calif. 92806. When I walked into the office the girl took my heater into the back and came out with a new one. No questions asked. I did not even have to show my Ebay paper work.
SO my solution is send it back.
Good luck

Thank you! I had two heaters with this same problem. I took them to the office like you said. The man there took the heaters back to see if he could do a quick repair, then decided it wouldn't be quick, so he gave me two new heaters, Didn't have to show paperwork. We'll see how long these last! Thanks again for the great advice.

I read another article and tried the "smack it" method that worked for some others, but alas no dice, no such luck for me. Upon removing the back round cover I noticed a section of the wiring which is covered by an insulation sleeve & screwed to the back of the heater with a little metal clip had a red wire going in one end and a white wire coming out the other, so I suspected something like a fuse was being hidden inside. Bingo! Its part number is "SF119U-1", made by SEFUSE rated 15Amps/125degC. You can get 5 of them for $5 on eBay, or they probably have them or an equivalent at Radio Shack. The not-so-fun part is that it's soldered, so if you don't already have the stuff needed to solder, you're in for a bit more expense to make this repair. If you're handy, you can avoid any future problems by installing a circuit breaker, which will allow you to reset it instead of replacing it. RadioShack has a 15Amp breaker (pt# R59-15A) made by NTE for $5, also available on eBay. It has spade terminals, so you could actually make the repair without soldering, but I like to overkill and crimp them on, AND solder them.

How would you connect the breaker instead of replacing the fuse?

  • Anonymous Oct 27, 2015

    Thank You. It worked!

Alarm light comes on as soon as I turn on heater, preventing heater from coming on.

You can replace this fuse with a circuit breaker from RadioShack (part # R59-15A), and then the next time it trips you can reset it, instead of having to replace the fuse, which requires soldering.

Powers up but alarm lights up and no heat

I called customer support on this since everyone has the same problem. Behind the reflector is a cover that has 3 screws. Unscrew and you'll see two wires (a red & white). Inside the white sleeve is a fuse. Cut out the white sleeve and take the fuse out. Cut the fuse w/ the wires. Attach the white to the red w/ electrical tape. Make sure that wires are wrapped w/ the electrical tape. Support said that the fuse is not needed.

Check on the heater coil using the multi-tester. Set it at Ohms 1 x 10 position.
1. Switch it off and disconnect it .
2. Disassemble the electric heater.
3. Put the multi-tester probe (red and black) at each
end of the heater coil.
4. If the reading is almost zero, then it is okey.
Otherwise, you have to replace it.
5. Then, reassemble the electric heater.
6. Plug it back to the electric outlet, and switch on.

Alarm light staying on.

I have the same problem. I removed the center panel on the back of the dish and found a fuse inside a white insulating sleeve. The fuse is open, preventing the current from reaching the heating coils. On the fuse it says 121 C. and 15 A.; I assume that it is designed to blow if the temp. of the dish exceeds 121 centigrade or the current exceeds 15 Amps. I don't see any reason to believe that either has happened so I suspect that these fuses just spontaneously fail. Now I just need to find a source for new ones. I wouldn't recommend jumping the fuse as it could lead to a fire.
