S video question

I have an HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop. Can you tell me how to get the S video cable to work? When I hook it up to our TV it can not pick up the signal. Im not sure what we need to do. One suggestions was to press the fn and f together to switch monitors, but that does not work either. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggtion, but it did not work, and I using Vista. Do you think it has something to do with the 7 prong jack? I was reading some troubleshooting online and read somwhere that the problem was due to not have a 4 prong. How about VGA. What do you think about trying that cord?

This can be done a couple of ways. I hope I am right in assuming that you are using Vista. If not, let me know. Not all F keys have the same functions on different laptops, so am not sure if you're pressing the right one. The one you should be looking for will have 2 square boxes (1 white, the other filled in, seperated by a vertical straight line).

If that is the one you've already tried, then I would assume the laptop hasn't been set up for external display. Connect the cable to the external display, click on the Start Menu, then All Programs. Open the Accessories folder, then click on Windows Mobility Center. Click on connect display.

If you have an NVidia board/chipset, you can right-click anywhere on your desktop and choose the TV Setup Wizard or Multiple Display Wizard. Once either of these are done, you should be able to switch between the two displays.

If your tv has a VGA port on the back, then yes, it'll work. It just turns your tv into a monitor. That's how I connect mine. You might not even have to set up multiple displays, I didn't. The only thing to remember is to set your laptop resolution to a resolution that your tv supports.

i.e. my laptop is normally set to 1440 x 900, but my tv doesn't support anything higher than **** x 768. So before I connect my tv via VGA, I change my laptop resolution to 1330 x 768.

1024 x 768 is the most commonly used resolution, so set that one first and work your way up from there.

SOURCE: S video question

pushing FN is not able for TV. it for VGA out.

TV must be AV mode. you need to S video cable plug in the both side correctly. and then you will have a view. if you dont maybe your S video out is not working.

My HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop screen fades to white, sometimes comes on white, and I wiggle it to get it on. Sometimes restarting the screen helps.

Sounds like you have a loose connection either on the flat video cable on the left side of the motherboard or the inverter cable on the right side of the motherboard that supplies voltage to the screen. Below is a manual for disassembling the laptop down to where you can inspect and reseat the cables.

HP Pavilion dv2000 black screen.

yep seams that you mess with the grafic card ( vga driver ) ..probably on color register ..or some driver update ..and now it wont display image ...
either reinstall the pc ...and its probably the best ...or restore using cd .. cause if it was something wrong with your display should work on the other monitor... it also might be a video card fail ...if after re-installation its the same ...its the video card..
if you are worried for the data on il ...just install windows without formating ...choose to install a new os in the old folder...

How to hook up a hp pavilion laptop to a hdtv

if it worked fine at some point then it should work fine now... i use hdmi to hdmi from my laptop to tv all the time dvi would only cause quality loss.

the first thing i would try would be to change your resolution on your laptop to a couple different settings. a lot of times, if its not set to one thats compatible with your tv, you won't see anything.

if that doesn't work, go to personalization and open the tab that says "connect an external display" and toy around with it. but yeah it doesn't sound like you have any hardware problems there.

hope this helps
