I cleaned the DVDRW drive with Isopropyl Alcohol and the music CD still played in a stop/start fashion. I tried a full wipe of a blank CD. It seemed to finish ok, but was unreadable after the action. I cleaned again and just managed the quick version. Looks like a dufffffff drive, yes????

I now need to identify where to buy a new DVDRW drive and equivalent models plus step-by-step instructions on how to change an Acer 2700 dvd drive. I'll get it on the web I guess.

Before that i will try nd track down a cleaner.

    Thanks

I have an AVERATEC 6200, still is great Laptop, but the burner (Slimtype dvdrw SOSW-852s does not appear to be working, it sounds like its reading, but then stops. If I keep reinstalling the CD/DVD it might accept and then works. If cleaning doesn't help, where can I purchase the dvdrw SOSW-852s and does it come with installation instructions? I really don't want to replace this laptop.

Hi - I would suggest that buy a cleaner for the drive, and try playing you cd's afterwords. If it still playing up then copy some music from the computer onto a brand new cd and play back. If that still has the same fault then you may need to but a new drive.

I hope that helps you.

Please let me know how you get on.

Regards,

Philip

Downloaded new version of itunes now i cant burn cds

you have to set the process up again Burning CDs in iTunes is easy and requires no setup.
But if you are an advanced user, you may want to tweak the settings a bit. Here's how you can set CD burning preferences in iTunes:

Open up iTunes on your computer. Click Edit and then select Preferences. Click the Advanced tab. Click the Burning tab within the Advanced tab. Set your preferred speed. From the drop-down menu, choose a burn speed for your CD burner. Choose a format. Audio CDs are for playing in your stereo or CD player. MP3 CDs can hold more songs, but need a special type of CD player to be read. Data CDs are for backing up songs, and can only be read by computers. Choose a gap between songs. By default, iTunes puts a gap of silence between each song. You can change this option from the drop-down menu. Use the Sound Check feature. This option will automatically adjust the volume on your songs so they will be the same volume on the CD. Include the CD text option. This will give the CD the title of the playlist to be displayed by a stereo or CD player that supports CD text. Click OK to save your preferences.

Burned cd's on computer will not play on other players

Ok, here's are the likely culprits:
  1. One possibility is that you are using rewritable CDs (CD-RW), which will not work on most players. You need CD-Rs for that.
  2. Make sure you are burning an audio disk, not a data disk.
  3. In order for a disk you made to work on another computer or another player, you need to finalize the disk. You should see that information listed in the CD burning software in the options. If you can't find that information, comment and I'll tell you how to do it for your player.
  4. If these don't work, I would see if another brand of CDs do work. Some brands (Memorex comes to mind) can be a little finicky where they work. I've had good luck with Verbatim, but there are other good brands.
Hope this help you. Good luck!

My cd drive on my compaq desktop plays cd's fine but will not play dvd's.what can i do it's a windows xp home

You can only play CDs on a CD drive. In order to play DVDs you need a DVD drive. A DVD drive can play both CDs & DVDs.

Hope this info helped you. Good Luck! :-)

I have recorded single track on to rewritable disc. on windows media player . it has been finalised will not allow me to record another track to disc. How do i do this? many thanks ALEX

If you are using CD +/- R cds or DVD +/-, you can only write to them once. Once something has been written to the disk no mater how small, that is the only time it will write. In order to add multiple tracks to a disk you will have to create a play list that will fit on the disk then burn the entire list all at once. The only disks that allow for multiple write capabilities are CDRW +/- or DVDRW +/-. When using those types of disks, make sure you do not overwrite the tracks that are already installed on the disks.
