Unfortunately, this will require a plasma panel replacement. This is an expensive proposition. Depending on the model, these panels can cost $1000. As I am sure you know, you buy a new tv for that.

Here is an example cost for a Panasonic 50 inch plasma.
$ 2915.00 Plasma screen only - does not include labor to install.
$ 248.00 Maximum shipping cost to deliver it to your home.
$ 3163.00 Total cost - Does not include labor to install.

Probably cheaper to buy a brand new TV.

My Samsung plasma tv got hit with a remote. Cracked in a star pattern now. It was on when it happened. Screen went black but still had sound. Turned it off and then back on and now no sound and black...

Most likely. It is probably in some kind of protection / "get me repaired at a really high cost" mode, this would explain why you had sound until you restarted it and it ran a brief diagnostic.

I don't think you'll be able to claim this on warranty as it is accidental damage, not a manufacturing error, but you never know! Maybe your home insurance will cover it.

Call Samsung and see what they say, the might be able to repair it for you or quote you the cost of a replacement.

Thanks

Samsung 50 inch Plasma cracked

Sounds like a stressed area gave way. Plasmas are high vacuum tubes with a lot of unsupported surface so your problem may not be uncommon.

Can’t promise you satisfaction in your unenviable situationbut you are not alone in your consternation with Samsung:

50 " Samsung Plasma TV

Get the tech supplier to tell to the manufacture and the store what he told you.

Physical damage on any electronic device is very hard to have serviced under warranty. I have never seen a plasma display crack on its own. But, anything can happen.

I once saw a man drop a newly bought plasma TV in a parking lot outside from where he bought it and the screen broke. He never even made it home from the store!

Maybe you should contact a lawyer or someone who can give you legal advice about how to proceed with this. In different countries and different states the consumer protection laws are different.
