Thanks guys, I realise now the information I provided was quite limited. I was actually trying to get wireless working on a computer that didn't come with any operating software. So a friend installed Ubuntu and Xubuntu.

With Linux, I was told the wireless automatically kicks in. I haven't seen anything come up and when I go to Network settings, I get only model dialup and another cabled network option. But nothing about wireless. I checked all around the Acer computer and no Wireless switch. (at least didn't find any).

To get wireless you will need the following, a wireless adapter built into the computer or an external wireless adapter running on USB. Then you need to have the drivers for the wireless device installed which you will have to do if the system did not come pre-installed with wireless. Even for a beginner this is pretty straight forward and instructions come with the device. Next, you will need to have a wireless router and this will need to be configured. These are usually configured through a web interface, but the software that came with the router should also provide a wizard. Finally the frequency and channels the devices use have to match, this will be a letter such as A,B, or G. The further the letter is in the alphabet the better your range and speed, G is better then A, etc. When everything seems to be working, you can setup WEP. This is so other people can't steal your wireless and it is configured by putting in the address of the router into your web browser, usually 192.168.1.1 from a wired machine. Setup a password and write down the hex value it creates, something like f45e9645, etc. Then re-connect to the wireless using the operating system. When it asks you for the key put in the value you wrote down. Voila!! Safe secure wireless.

Should mention if you have a laptop there is also probably an on/off button for the wireless radio if it is built-in. This is because wireless is a battery leach. So make sure the wireless is on.

How to turn on wireless capability for everex nm3500w

There could be an option to "automatically connect" when it detects the network. Look for a checkbox.

create the menu tab on your homepage right click in the top toolbar you should see a number of toolbar options select the menu tab which will add File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help

click on the tools at the bottom of the drop down list will be internet options in the connections tab tick in the box never dial a connection

below that will be change search defaults click on settings you will see all search providers you

have if dont need any of them you can disable or remove them

Power on the laptop computer and wait for the operating system to boot before proceeding.

Right-click the wireless icon in the lower right corner of the desktop.

From the pop-up menu select "Enable."

This activates the wireless Internet options but it does not turn on the wireless receiver.

Push down on the wireless button or wireless switch on the top of the keyboard.

After a moments time the switch or button lights up, signifying the computer is ready for an Internet connection.

Right-click the wireless icon again.

From the pull-up menu choose to view all available wireless networks in the area.

A window appears with all the networks your computer receives some sort of signal from.

Select the wireless network you want access to, type in the password (if required) and click "Connect." Momentarily the laptop computer connects to the Internet.

you should be able to, it depends on the laptop, the os, the wireless adapter, and the settings .

click start Control Panel - Network Connections - right click on 'Wireless connection'

(or similar) and click 'enable'.

right click on the network in the bottom toolbar select open network sharing center

you should have the options to either connect or disconnect or set up a network connection

this will vary depending on your operating system

hope this helps

I have a wireless network of computers, one wired and 2 wireless. in the correct setup, my other acer laptop doesn have internet, but s connected to the router, and this laptop im using CAN connect...

All the computers should have the same NETWORK NAME or SSID.

Recheck the settings and make an adhoc connection for each of the computers to your router.

You can also get a USB wireless adapter to enable ht NO internet laptop and connect them.

Just keep playing with the NETWORK SETTINGS.

Make sure all are connected to the SAME SSID.

Hope it helped.

God Bless You!

Hi Sir, you might be having a trouble with your proxy. Try going to control Panel > Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings and uncheck use proxy server...

FOr mozilla.. Try going to tools >>Options > Advance > network > Settings > Click No Proxy.

If that doesn't work.. You might have a virus in your computer. Try scanning it using malwarebytes. download it from malwarebytes.org

hope it works

Connect itouch to internet

From what it sounds like, you are working in a Windows environment. What you are trying to do is bridge your wireless ad-hoc network with your wired network connection. Windows does not support this method of connection even though they have the option for "allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection". That would only work if you had two ethernet cards in your system, and that option bridges one ethernet port with the other. It doesn't support bridging to your wireless adapter.
Most laptop wireless cards do not support an "infrastructure" mode, which would turn your notebook into a mobile router. Instead they create an ad-hoc network completely separate from your wired network. There are some commercial pieces of software that can bridge the two, though I've never been able to make them work.
The easiest route would be to go to Target or a local electronic store and pick up a wireless router. You would take the ethernet connection from your laptop and attach it to the router. Then your laptop and iPod would both connect to the internet through the router.

Changed router settings and now unable to access the network and internet

Just reset the router (there should be a reset button somewhere on it) it will default to open system. Then go back in and select WEP with 64 or 128 bit security. Generate your KEY and next time it connects enter the KEY. You should be set to go!

Wireless network

He might have specified and configured your laptops IP to his Home IP.

This is easily fixed by:
Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings > check the Automatically detect settings

Also you might want to check:
Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click on a Connection > Properties > Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then make sure its set to Automatically obtain IP address.

*note* do this for your home one and delete your son-in-law's connection. If you don't know which is which just leave them and see what connect's then delete the others.
