Question about Printers & Copiers

5 Answers

I have a brother MFC 4800. The page printing has been getting lighter and lighter over time. I have cleaned the printer, adjusted the density, tried a different OEM drum and toner cartridge to no avail. From the left margin for about 1/2 inch the printing is OK but from that point to the right margin the characters get lighter and lighter....... Any suggestions would be appreciated... Thanks Heath, is there a web site that sells these fuser units. I imagine the price may be a factor verses purchasing a new machine........Ray

A motherboard replacement would cost more than the printer is worth in my opinion. Any thoughts on entering the maintenance feature of the printer and resetting the factory settings?

HI
found this solution to be very effective:

* Buy alcohol solution (70% or more). You can find it in any drug store.

* Remove both cartridges from the printer head. Unplug the printer head from the printer body. Pour the alcohol into paper towel layer.

* put the printer head on the top of wet towel with the face of HEAD touching the towel.

* clean the head with the towel and get rid of all the built-up ink on the head.

* Pour the alcohol into the printer head container (ink-receptacle area is where the ink cartridge normally sits, notice a small hole where the ink flow into the printer). Do not touch any electronic parts and let it dry over night.

* Do step 2-5 again if necessary.

* Install the cartridge back to the printer and run several head cleaning maintenance, print nozzle check, make sure to repeat this step until no more dead nozzle shown.

    OR
This could be caused by a worn OPC drum, Transfer belt or poor high voltage output.

I would suggest the drum first.

Not getting toner/powder on the other half of the paper. the printer's internal electronic also handles that part (as you already eliminated the toner as the cause by installing a new one, and did the same for the drum).

If the issue also shows on standalone copies, the unit's logic board is failing, usually requires service for non-user serviceable part replacement.

There are several possible cause for faded print on a LAser printer.

A common reason is a faulty toner, in this case , replace the toner.

If the fuser lamp is not melting the toner properly, then you get toner not spreading on part of the drum, and print is partially blank.
Inspect the fuser lamp assembly, if it is dirty , clean the fuser unit or replace it.

If you additionally have bubbles , this is a drum ground problem. With no ground path, the drum will not discharge propely, and the negative charges accumulating on drum surface will repel the toner and leave a white faded print with bubble print.
    Solutions:
    1. Check drum ground spring and eventually reconnect it,
if it is not grounded . 2. Replace engine controller board.

Additional cause for faded print can be:

Defective engine controller board or high voltage
    power supply.

    Defective laser/scanner

Poor contact to the engine controller board

    Transfer roller is defective

Try performing an inside cleanup, and follow indications above.

Follow the steps illustrated on the website below to do a complete printer cleanup:

How to clean the printing head of brother mfc-210c after a long-long break in usage?

Unfortunately this is a very old model and when the Printhead stops firing ink, you cannot repair it. Better buy the new MFCJ470DW which is the 4th Generation of your machine and not expensive but very good machine

Brother MFC 4800 all in one: when i receive a fax it prints out some really dark pages that are barely legible. Please help! Thanks in advance.

I've seen some of the Brother Laser printers develop problems with the thermal transfer rollers inside the back of the unit. Check to see if the rollers are intact.

Brother 4800 printer how to print on both sides

If your printer does not have a duplex unit then the printercannot print double sided pages automatically.
You can print double sided pages but you have to do it one page at a time.
First print Page 1 then place the page back into the paper tray, but turn thepage upside down and the print Page 2.
Then print page 3 on one side then page 4 on the other side and repeat for therest of the document.
I suggest you try a test page first, to get the printing the right way up onboth sides of the page so it reads correctly.

I have a Brother MFC 240C printer that will not print black ink. I just changed all the cartridges. All the other cartridges print. I ran the clean cycle many times. No error messages just blank paper.

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

My printer wont print even after changing ink and cleaning

When cleaning doesn't help, you need a new printhead. Around $89.00 now and then you add labor. They sell a new MFC 490 for around $120.00 with a year warranty.

Brother MFC 4800. Faxes at receiving end have a line down page

Clean the wire in the drum (remove drum and place it upside down) by moving the blue plastic tab from left to right several times.

It fixed the problem for me.

Brother mfc MFC-5440CN magenta issues

If you have used generic ink the head is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore.

Last chance is to use original brother ink which has cleaning fluids within the ink. Run the cleaning procedure twice and simply print 10 PAGES afterwards. Wait A DAY AND TRY TO PRINT IN MAG AGAIN:

If there will be no mag. the ph is definitley clogged and needs replacement.

Brother MFC 4800 print quality problem

I would try cleaning the drum unit.
Take the drum unit out of the printer.
They recommend that you place the drum unit on a drop cloth or large piece of disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering toner.
1. Carefully turn the drum unit upside down.
2. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the tad from right to left several times. (Be careful with the corona wire they are delicate.)
3. Return the tab to the Home position before reinstalling the drum unit. (If you do not position the tab at the home position, printed pages may have vertical lines.)
4. Re-install the drum unit.
5. Close the top cover.
6. Plug in the power cord.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck.
